Americans will only buy a game if the cover has le cool guy looking away from the camera

Sir Adelbert "Rusty" Steiner is the coolest character in the photo and he retains the chad gaze so I don't know what you're on about

NTSC covers are garbage though I'll give you that

american FF covers looks like cheap chinese bootlegs kek
I would hate to be them

>> No.8279676

To be honest, I'm pretty sick of the minimalism meme. At least a couple of those American boxes look better.

final fantasy was once a guaranteed seller just by the name. all they needed to do was tell you final fantasy n+1 is out
they don't have that reputation any more, though

Someone post that pic made in MS paint comparing video game covers from Japan, America, Europe, etc.

Don't blame American consumers. Blame American Marketers.
Have you seen what those homosexuals are doing with Halloween this year?

also the difference for the sotn cover is laughable

The FF7 one is top-tier. The others all do a great job representing the art styles of each game, which are absolutely going to stand out on a shelf next to the standard Playstation titles. The worst one is probably FFVIII, followed by FFXII (but mostly because of the orange/blue filter)

Minimalism is pretty awful nowadays, but the covers work better than just having the logo, some background, and all the faces. Hate that trend of covers not being allowed to be more artsy, or having to have the protagonist looking forward.

Imagine being a Euronigger who needs pretty colors on their box they'll only look at once then shelve forever.

I think ideally what you want in a fantasy game is a cover art that gives you a look into the world, and a hint of the story. Japanese FFXV does a pretty good job of that. As for the American box arts, I can appreciate FFX giving you a hint at the ocean themes of the game.

I think that's a respectable take, since it's just another way to handle the themes of the game and for new people, that might help get them to actually want to try the game out.
I guess for me and probably some of the others who've reacted, there's just a very nice sense of style with that old take of Amano art on a simple color. There's a power to it, and it really does stand out and make the game look, iunno, I guess proud to be part of the series? I do like that the Amano art usually gets some flair to help subtly convey stuff, but it might be too subtle, thinking about it from your angle. I appreciate the perspective
>>8279897
I don't get what your argument is, other than saying it's not of the norm or something. I wasn't a fan of game covers getting more basic, and I don't think it adds much to the conversation to say if that sort of opinion is common or really different, desu

PAL covers are the same as the japanese ones. For FF, the Amano drawn logo is the first piece of key art that is made at the start of development of any FF game.
