The source code for the first two Little Big Adventure games was released on GitHub under the GPL version 2.

Wait wut? I'm not that savvy on legalese and apparently I missed v2 having an exempt for that last time I've read it.

As long as you own all of the code (or were allowed by contributors to do what you want) you can relicense code, and sell GPL exceptions. This is what Qt has been doing for years.
To mention a video game example, this is why id Software could make proprietary ports to new consoles for Doom and other games after the GPL relicensing (another example itself of more than one license for a piece of software). I'm sure there are more examples, but I do not know about them. The Xbox 360 port of Duke Nukem 3D is another example.
Of course, this requires people assuming good faith that the copyright holder is not stealing code by other people that it is solely under the GPL.
