the left audio on my snes doesnt work. i cant seem to find any info online as to what i could do to fix it. im pretty sure the cable isnt the issue, i had it working just fine the other day on a different snes. i found some old forum post saying that the AV unit in the back is somehow tied to the audio output but in a modification i was attempting that AV unit gets removed without any mention of how its supposedly related to sound at all.

>> No.8276372

The sliver box you took off is the audio unit.
You may have a bad. one.

i have it still around, i might try swapping it out for the current one.
checked the guide again, it says its the RF unit, not AV unit, my bad. here they just remove it without any mention as to what to do with it further. i thought it was just for the RF out and as im not going to use it i wanted to the the switches for the 60hz mod there.

we are talking about the big box with the big letter A in the bottom left corner right?

Why not install the switchless mod (superCIC)?
It's not significantly harder than installing switches.

For the audio check if the different outputs RF, SCART, composite all have bad audio, then a capacitor swap might fix it. You can also bypass the S-MIX (sound mix) chip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XT6kErqjfo (this will give you no audio when using the super gameboy though). Replacing the S-MIX with a chip from a different board, or this circuit (https://circuit-board.de/forum/index.php/Thread/30667-SNSP-1CHIP-0X-S-MIX-U10-Replacement-PCB/)) is also possible.
Anyways that's enough spoon-feeding, do some research on your own, good luck!

i didnt want to do the supercic because id either need to buy the extra board that is out of stock everywhere or the way more complicated boardless mod that has me soldering wires to a dozen tiny pins and i just recently fried another snes by shorting two pins together. im not good enough at soldering to trust myself doing something like pic rel. i dont have other cables and the smix bypass also doesnt look very nice. i think my best bet would be to either buy a new pal snes and retry the mod with the switches on a different location or to just import a japanese snes...

No dummy, you put the mod-chip on the other side of the PCB, most of the CIC pinouts can be found on the bottom of the cartridge connector and are very easy to solder to. If you're confident enough in lifting the PPU pins, you can install the superCIC.
Check here for the alternative pinouts: https://www.consolesunleashed.com/guides/super-nintendo-supercic-switchless-region-mod-install-guide/
Also, fried SNES boards can sometimes be revived by a simple fuse replacement.

aww yiss, another future-gore-thread

>> No.8276908

sound also works despite the RF unit being completely missing. dont know if ill be running into some other sound problems later down the line but as it stands the silver box doesnt affect the sound for me at least

>> No.8276973

everything seems to work now, the switches do *something* but i dont know if they work as they should. flipping the region lock switch only makes the image turn black. i have a flashcart in atm so i dont know if thats why. the 50hz/60hz switch also works but switching to 60hz makes the image all messed up. starts out only scrolling vertically the entire time but if running long enough it twitches around like crazy until i turn the console off and back on again.

playing with some settings on the crt fixed the issue.

I thought it was just the original shvc models that failed due to a defect in manufacturing and the the GPM-01 onwards were fine.

the original CPUs came in a variety of redesigns, up to C I believe. They are the most failure prone out of all the SNES models.

>im pretty sure the cable isnt the issue
Then you should have never opened it. If you're too retarded to have checked the cable to confirm it's good you have no business fucking around inside.
>i was modding my system and fucked it up
Excellent. If another 40 million idiots do this my collection will be worth millions.

chill dude, i didnt check the cable because i owned it longer than that particular snes and know its working. it *could* have been the issue because i didnt make double sure to check prior but i was certain it wasnt the issue and i confirmed it now that it isnt. also, i already repaired the snes, just replaced a fuse and thats it. infact, ill be repairing the broken audio on the other one and resell it just to spite you
