Something you consider worth the extra fee or completely overpriced?

They are pretty to look at and I would rather have a complete game with manuals and such, but it's generally not worth the price. I keep the boxes I do have in good condition, though.

depends on the game
a lot of times the prices are similar (virtualboy, japanese releases, shovelware, etc)

if possible i go for it
although i would say its idiocy to pay hundreds of dollars for empty boxes al ebay

Cardboard boxes were an insult from Nintendo. They are dogshit. I threw all of mine except for my original pokemon gameboy games. I think the plastic reproduction cases are better. Pictured: I actually paid $9 per case a few years back for these. Worth it.

I've never been too bothered with original boxes, if I find a box with or without a game for a decent price, I might get it. But I've never been obsessed with getting a perfect mint collection of boxed titles. But I do love cardboard game packaging, they're so vibrant and nice to own.

Low effort trollposting, everyone knows that buying games with the box included jacks the price up. Gameboy games and Pokemon games certainly not excluded.

This applies to clamshell boxes like the Turbografx 16 and Genesis/Megadrive and PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/everything after more than cardboard boxes like the Super Nintendo, N64 and Gameboy for pretty obvious reasons. The extra durability means that them being in good shape isn't as commoditized, and the durability means they were more likely to keep them to begin with. Sega Genesis collecting is one thing where including the box, while certainly jacking up the value for the game, doesn't do it quite as much as it would for a Super Nintendo game.

There's literally never once been a period in all of the after market history where a CIB game was not more expensive than a loose game. Kill yourself larper.

>> No.8276373

>>8274726
If you're collecting the cartridge plastic, which is just a container for the work of art and not art in itself at all, the cardboard actually has higher artistic value to be preserving. The game data is on neither plastic nor cardboard, but the cardboard has more than 1 sticker of unique artwork to it and likely contains the instruction manual which holds even more than that. If you're into physical collecting like you're a museum curator, the art and written word is more culturally and artistically important than the generic elements (ie the plastic casing and default chips inside that aren't even necessary to preserving the ideas recorded in the ROM data). Unique cartridges exempt obviously.

No offense dude but we aren’t in the 90s anymore. $2 to $3 USD is what the cheapest burger at mcdonalds costs in my high COL state (currently $2.67 neat my house btw). We don’t have a dollar menu anymore and fast food joints pay $19/hr starting wage. A $3 product isn’t even worth shipping because a vendor would loose money on their time spent on handling your order. Coomlectors are paypigs, so if they want a nice looking shelf then they can pay $9 dollars for their overpriced N64 games to look pretty. This is the modern economy.

Well that's an obvious exception, it's not all the time that loose is in better condition than boxed. And some games that aren't high in demand aren't very expensive boxed to begin with. But just on principle, complete products cost more than incomplete 95% of the time.

Now that we're on the subject of cardboxes, I'd like to know if someone sells Mega Drive or Genesis gamebox protectors like pic related. Thye never have a snug fit for the hanging tab - I've only found two "models", where you either have to press it down and risk breaking the hanging tab or you're left with a gigantic space wide open to the right and left of the tab.
