It's in my top-3 favorite in the series but I can understand people disliking it, especially those who started with 3D Zeldas. It's rather simplistic comparatively speaking and it's not all that that pretty visually.
Where it excels though is pure gameplay smoothness, something that only the GB(C) games improved on and what the 3D games lack because of their focus on cinematics or other 5th (and beyond) gen nonsense.

>> No.8273401

>>8273058
No, but I find it kind of boring now and haven't completed it since 2003. Doesn't have any of the magic it did when I was a kid. This isn't just me getting old, Link's Awakening still has it.

>> No.8273495

ALTTP is one of those games i still don't really know what to think about after all this time. i grew up with the 2D ones and never got into the 3D ones, ALTTP was the last of the retro ones I played.

i just feel like there was something missing from it in comparison to the other titles. not exactly 'muh soul', but the overworld was missing something that made me really feel interested in it. i also didn't really enjoy the items all that much, oracle games still reign supreme. it's not that ALTTP is a bad game, but it's easily the worst retro 2D one.

ages > LA > seasons > ALTTP

>> No.8273587

>>8273495
>ages > LA > seasons
This doesn't make sense. You dislike Oracle of Seasons so much more than Oracle of Ages that you find it worse than a completely different game?

>> No.8273703

>>8273587
>so much more
relax dude, it's a ranking, things can't all be number 1. but yes, seasons is the one i replay the least
>not really interested too much in subrosia
>changing seasons doesn't change the landscape like past/present does
>dungeons are generally pretty mild, nothing too crazy
>quest to get L2 sword is much less interesting than ages'
>story (i know, it's zelda) is much less interesting
>MUCH more fun going from dungeon to dungeon and changing landscape/things in the process
i could go on, but that's pretty much the gist. it's still a really good game, i literally just beat it 2 days ago and started linked Ages today. it's just that everything taken into consideration, i prefer LA over it. ages and seasons aren't the same game and i'm not really sure why you would try to imply that just because it uses the same engine.

I like the game however it has it's flaws and can't really compare to the rest of the series.
>The overworld is boring
>None of the dungeons are memorable or unique
>enemy designs are largely rehashed from Zelda 1
>Lack of challenging gameplay
>mediocre story and characters
I honestly can't tell what makes people think it's better than any Zelda game released before or since.

The first time I played it, I couldn't get into it because the sword felt too short. I didn't know that you get a longer sword later in the game.

I gave the game another try a few years later and fucking loved it. I still kinda hate having a short sword at the beginning of the game though, but it makes it that much more rewarding when you get a long sword.

Not anon, but I just don't like any pre-3D Zelda games. They are fine, but not amazing. However, I have to say that ALTTP is a solid 8-9/10 experience until the mid-way point, where you are transported to the dark world. After that point, the dungeons aren't as well designed and the game does feel rushed to meet a dead-line. This is purely subjective, of course. However, the last half of ALTTP really bored me. I wouldn't even have the game in my top 20 for the system.

One of the best games on the SNES. It became the franchise's Standard for the next 30 years, until they finally released BOTW. Influenced dozens of Action JRPGS. I like four swords and other spin-offs better. the original game is too slow for my taste

whats the best alttp rom hack. I dont mind slightly higher difficulty but I dont want to be forced into obscure speedtranny tricks which I probably dont know in the first place. only hack I tried so far was parallel worlds (easier version) and even that one required some speedtranny tricks. it was good in theory but got way to obscure in the second half.

It's a fantastic game. Everyone stating otherwise is just being contrarian or never got Zelda games in the first place.

Now, is it the best Zelda? No, I think others since then have been better. It definitely set the bar and themes for every Zelda since.
