As always, I'm hosting Internal Conflict Team LMS.

>What's Internal Conflict?
Internal Conflict is a mod that allows you to play as all of the monsters of Doom 2; except for the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind. Each monster has 3 main weapons (each of which their ammo regens over time), and an alt-fire function. There are differences in health, damage, functionality, mobility, and the weapons themselves. Each monster has an "ultimate" weapon, the 3rd weapon, that takes the longest to regen but is the most powerful. If you survive long enough, you get a special item/ability to use.

It's really fun. Try it out somtime.

Q: Where do I get started with making maps?
A: Get doombuilder 2. Chubzdoomer has some good Doombuilder2 tutorials, however they are a bit dated. The ZDoom wiki has some good ACS tutorials.

Q: How do I make new weapons?
A: First you need SLADE 3, then put together your sprites, then make a new archive in SLADE 3 and use this tutorial http://zdoom.org/wiki/Creating_new_weapons

Alright, here's Bossifyer. Bossifyer is essentially Boss Rush: the mod, but without any monster replacements or new maps. What that means is: it is compatible with all other mods. It might be slightly error heavy right now because there are a lot of unfinished things in it, and some of the realm667 imports might show up in other pwads you use, so you might have actors being declared multiple times, but it works just fine. It inserts one boss into every map on mapload and gives a message if it succeeds. If the boss failed to insert is gives a "tryspawn" message because I was too lazy to remove some of the debugging script. This is a BUGGY AS FUCK prerelease so bear with me.

The current bosses implemented are:

Monsterspawner, a floating IOS cube oh lord is this thing vicious
Heretic Minotaur
Afrit from realm667
Dark Inquisitor from realm 667
Paladin from realm 667
Banshee from realm 667
Bloodlich from realm 667 HEAVILY edited, because it breaks the entire mod without editing it
Inferno Demon from realm 667
Zardaz from realm 667
Annihilator from realm 667

All the realm 667 monsters, and the minotaur, have been edited for increased speed, health, damage, decreased painchance (most of them), and increased aggressiveness. This is a fast release and not intended to demonstrate the final product: I intend to make custom bosses for this and replace most of the imports with them.

DO NOT play this in vanilla, with vanilla maps. These bosses are intended for weapon mods in cooperative play. I have not yet defeated a single one of these bosses in vanilla doom2 with the weapons available in the maps.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/l4f0rw6vihnt8xh/bossifyer_prerelease.wad

I am also uploading it to Best Ever. I'll eventually host a server to test it but I don't have time. I'm thinking of doing it with FKER. Anyone have any suggestions for maps?

>Really...? I am sure it worked in vanilla...
you're both kind of right. here is the full story.

projectile motion is the one place where the movement code takes height into account. a projectile will collide with a solid obstacle, but only if it hits it at the right height. otherwise it will fly right overhead, just like with monsters.

and here's the thing: in vanilla, all decorative obstacles are only 16 units high. for anything other than projectiles (such as the player) they are infinitely high - but as far as a projectile is concerned, the obstacle stops being an obstacle 16 units above the floor.

for example try shooting rockets over the pillars by the stairs on e1m1 (pictured). they let them through but only after you are up a sufficient number of stairs. as shown, they are actually hitting the pillar. if you really want to test this, make a copy of e1m1 and remove the pillar.

in zdoom they changes obstacles to have heights that match the sprite sizes, hence, there, decorative obstacles block projectiles.

I set crazy settings for maps, on purpose, with tons of ammo and at least a chaingun, rocket launcher, or plasma rifle. I feel like that's the best way to play it; all crazy and what not. It's good to be unbalanced sometimes. You don't have to worry about ammo as much because, personally, I like to have health on deafult or just one notch higher. Try out that vietnam server everyone's playing, or try out the Painful invasion server; the second level on that Painful invasion one is pretty crazy.

I never password the servers I make because it's a plus when extra people join for stuff like CTF, and most everyone is well behaved.

The other thing is that trolls like Helios already know how to find the threads, and for those that don't all they have to do is goole "/vr/ doom" and the current thread will be the first result. So unless we want to use code names for our servers or use a "more secure" password distribution method (which will almost certainly end up excluding some /vr/bros just because it will be harder to find) then I don't see that passwords are doing all that much.

I'm not sure about this, but maybe their maximum length of AI is 512mb so they all kinda fucked up when they reached that and stopped working, then once they realized that something was happening (because they were forced into it due to a frag) they started battling; then once they killed the player their log became TOO large and exploded the server. That also would explain why they stopped killing eachother, they ran out of moves to exhaust on eachother so they stopped; and since they couldnt find anything to use on eachother they just killed the first player that joined once they were forced into it.

Would anyone be interested in trying out a mod of mine? I'd like to be able to get some feedback on it but I don't think it's worthy of having a topic on ZDoom forums and I haven't thought of a real name for it yet.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48332341/pistolmod.pk3

Use with G/ZDoom. You've got a pistol and there's a whole load of modules and upgrades for it. Have a blast.

Some gameplay tips:

-The default weapon uses the reload key, so make sure it's bound.

-I recommend turning on weapon tags so you know what you're using. There's no way to tell from the sprite, and the only other indication is the ammo type. Well, and its functionality, but that should be obvious.

-The module upgrades don't stack if you collect more than one. Instead, you'll receive an amount of ammo equivalent to one large ammo pack for that weapon. The upgrade for the default weapon does stack, but only up to five.

-All damage is completely static. Even the explosive weapon has no damage falloff.

-The default weapon has the weakest per-shot damage (tied with the spreadshot's individual pellets at 10 damage), but it's unique in that it fires perfectly accurately and as fast as you can mash the button. Due to its unlimited nature, it's very good for activating switches and making lost souls into jokes. Once its capacity is maxed, it can even bring down cacodemons with relative ease.

I'd especially like feedback on the balance of rapidfire and spreadshot. Please mind the crude pickup sprites, they're sort of temporary. I'd like to replace them if possible, but I haven't come across anything that would work well yet.

Yeah, spreadshot is kind of overpowered. It's fast, strong, and it really doesn't help that it consumes the most common ammotype in most Doom maps. Just before I posted the mod here, I increased the spread slightly, but it needs something more than that. Doubled ammo usage to go along with doubled damage? Maybe it should be reduced to 6 and 12 pellets from 7 and 14. I don't really want to reduce it any further than that, since I like being able to oneshot imps.

I suppose I don't absolutely have to, but I don't want to devalue the upgrade. Hmm...if the upgrades were altfires rather than replacing the primary, that might be interesting.

As for the lack of a plasma mode, it's mostly because I'm out of stuff to replace. All the weapons have been replaced. Partial Invis has been replaced. The other powerups aren't going anywhere, and I only recently brought back the backpack, so I don't really want to remove it so soon. I also don't really know what it would provide that's significantly different from the other firing modes.

-Weapons now have decals.

Recommend me good songs that could fit in the Doom style that the original and classic tunes follow, and I'll try to look for a MIDI version of them. I know some people have been in these threads for months, some people date back to the /vg/-era; but basically I'm saying that there's a group of people who have been here for awhile and plan on staying here. Scroton tossed up the idea of making a community chest map-pack containing all the /vr/ made wads. This could include the various board wads, as it doesn't seem like the 4chan wad is going to be completed anytime soon, as well as various other single maps. I think we could make something really cool out of this, as long as we have people to contribute along the way.

Since people have been here a hot minute, I thought that it'd be fairly easy to set a date near the end of the year, and have everyone make maps until then; and then compile all of them together. Even though it's ambiguous, setting the date later in the year would allow for a lot more map making/polishing. Again, we'd need more people churning out maps, no matter how fast, as long as some heart was put into the process.

>I'd like to help, but I don't know how to map.
You can find several links through out the OP for Doom Builder 2 and other map-making software. Hell, I started because another anon said: "make a map in one day," and I ended up taking a month, but it turned out pretty nice; for a first map. My point is that even if you don't know how to map, it's incredibly easy to start learning how.

Maps don't have to be amazing, ground-breaking experiences (see pic, that's my first map), but as long as 10 people make 1 quality map each, then that'd make a very unique, and interesting, map-pack.
Thoughts?

i think a megawad has to have some consistency. i mean doing a wad where half the maps are vanilla/Boom and would break if played with mouselook/jumping, and half the maps are ZDoom and designed for mouselook/jumping, that's not going to work very well.

for example i could probably do some small classic style maps that aren't highly detailed but are quick to blast through (think Plutonia or original Scythe, that kind of thing). but i think if i did, and you mixed it in a megawad with stuff like your map (which is huge, and mostly works with classic gameplay except for one place where you have to jump to avoid getting stuck) or the /pol/ wad (which is also pretty huge, and full of custom ZDoom stuff) they wouldn't fit together at all.

at the very least i think it needs to be decided if the compilation will be oldschool or newschool. Doomworld's community chest series are all oldschool (the first one was vanilla, the second to fourth were all Boom). on the other hand you have you have your ZPack wads from the ZDoom forums, and so forth.

Yeah, this is the kinda stuff we should figure out. Should we have consistency? Should we just say "fuck it" and make what we want? Personally, I like the idea of having some consistency; however, I can see that it's easy to get whatever source port is required to play whatever; albeit the hassle it would take to switch levels. I don't care about mouse-look, at all. If someone wants to have it, more power to them; I don't design my maps to be affected in any major way by mouse-look, or jumping for that matter. I designed my maps as vanilla as you can possibly make them. That place you were talking about, where you're required to jump, I fixed that in the final version. That map is as vanilla as Blue Bell.

>As far as progression of levels...
I think it'd be more cohesive if we looked at the level size/time/length/difficulty and put them in ascending order. That was the smallest/shortest/easiest map would be the beginning, something like my map would be in the middle, and then a really difficult/large map. I know that size doesn't necessarily dictate the difficulty, but size does play a factor in how difficult the level is; as long as the level is filled with enemies and isn't a lot of area with a few monsters.

This is a good start though. Any other ideas?

Scroton here, >>837871 is right, we need to figure out what the megawad is going to be in terms of compatibility. My vote is for hexen with no jumping, but I'd be down for boom or even vanilla doom 2.

As for the /pol/ map, I never intended it to be part of the /vr/ community chest project and don't think it should be; it's for the board project which I still think is going to eventually get made, and it wouldn't fit in thematically anyway.

We still need to get ahold of some of the people that made one-off maps and then weren't around again. I'm thinking specifically of Moonbase Alpha and Dark Side of the Moon, but I know there were others. If we can get ahold of them, we can see if they want to polish them up for the wad (many still had missing or incongruent or misaligned or placeholder textures, or even unfinished sections) or if they're done with doom mapping and in that case if they'd be okay with someone else polishing them up for them.

As for the release date, I think shooting for the end of the year is a good idea, but "when it's ready" is probably going to be more realistic and result in a better finished product.

I'm purdy busy right now which is why the updates for fractal have slowed, but in a month or two I should be able to devote more time to doom stuff again.

Also I wanted to add: I don't think the community chest wad should include the board wads; /pol/, no, because as I said it doesn't fit in thematically (you're fighting the minions of hell in traditional doom settings and then SHREK WHATS GOOD NIGGA RON PAUL IT'S HAPPENING.)

For the /tg/ map, it could fit in as is, but I remember the author stating he planned on going back and adding custom monsters/textures and weapons. It would probably fit in a lot better than /pol/, but even with something like a bolt gun it wouldn't jive with the rest of the community chest wad. That's really up to the author though.

Since there aren't any more than those two so far, I would recommend that authors wanting to create maps for the community chest map just create ones for that and not try to make maps that will fit both projects. There's a lot more freedom in mapping for the community chest project anyway, since you don't have to include board stuff (though you could, as an easter egg if you wanted) and you can design fights to have the gameplay you want rather than reflect the board.

the usual argument for "classic" (i.e. Doom format, use of Boom features optional) is that your map will work on basically all modern engines (except obviously Chocolate Doom and DOSBox+doom2.exe.) if you go with Hexen, you're effectively locked into ZDoom or something based on it.*

on the other hand, this is /vr/, where everyone is assumed to be using a Z-engine (GZ/Z&) and thus the usual argument doesn't apply.

that's true, but i could see it as a cause for confusion, especially as i imagine doomworld may make further community chest projects in the future.

(it's like when some random on doomworld decided to make a wad named "Hell Revealed 3". it turned out to be a bunch of bad remakes of Alien Vendetta maps or something and just annoyed people. i think he ended up renaming it to "Hell's Last Stand" or some such.)

You know how everyone bemoans Zandronum for being so behind ZDoom? This instance was a bit backwards--Zandronum had the ability to manipulate and archive cvars, which really offered a huge amount of flexibility that ZDoom lacked.
The most recent ZDoom update adds this function, and Cyberrunner relies heavily on it; as far as I can tell, GZDoom hasn't updated to it yet.

once the novelty of the graphics wears off, it gets old. it becomes more or less playing the original game with fast monsters on, but with an automatic sniper rifle instead of a pistol.

a huge pattern of blood obscures most of your view, and a constant drip-drip-drip sound accompanies you everywhere, at low health.

the fatalities are annoying especially after the dozenth time you've sat through them, and on low-health maps you have to perform them just to get enough health to survive. oh and don't do them if you have an invulnerability because it will silently cancel it!

reduced speeds. player is slowed (this might be reverted in latest version) in a game which is arguably _defined_ by the player being extremely fast, but fragile.

also reduced projectile speed. good luck getting the bfg to hit anything before it moves out ot the way. (on the other hand, to be fair, the plasma is very powerful.)

I would suggest to take another direction, because if we compile them in a single WAD, what would be the point if we carry the same amount of ammo from a prev. level to another one where you're supposed to start from zero? It's the same situation we had with the sub-board WAD. But wait, are they going to be compiled in a big WAD or just a ZIP file?

Why don't we make a website for everyone to check our works? Sorta like the Doom WAD Station, I dunno. And then we could have them categorized in vanilla, ZDoom compatible, deathmatch maps, and etcetera.

I do have a map that I'm still developing (zDoom in Hexen), as a matter of fact I took a rest from the MIDI stuff to keep working on that thing.

common practice is to do nothing. or just put a note in the text file (you know, the /idgames upload template thing) that says "this is a community project, where all maps are designed to be played from pistol starts." if people don't take any notice, that's their problem.

or you could go with the Scythe/Scythe2 style death exit, where exiting the map kills the player forcing the next map to pistol start. there are plenty of ways to do this, the easiest is to have the player telefrag a Romero head, a voodoo doll, and a heap of barrels. but everyone would need to build this into their map, and i don't think it's worth it.

It actually isn't difficult, in fact it is much easier and doesn't hurt your wrists/finger/hands as quickly overtime, but it just doesn't allow you to turn as fast, which is a large inconvenience. Sure, you can increase the sensitivity on the joystick, but it never feels natural when it is too fast on a joystick.

You could use the controller for movement, and the mouse for aiming, however, but it wont be the same. Maybe you can hook up a Wii movement controller to it(without its shitty jittery pointer)? That would make it much more useful, but still probably not as good as keyboard and mouse.

The map is BIG. Pic related; it's a city with copypasted rooms where you can enter. The thing is, you gotta hump all of them to check if they're real or not. I ended up spending 50 MINUTES on this motherfucker, ONLY to find the blue key, but the room was SO well hidden, that not even the 3 of us who were around couldn't find that door.

I can make a big sector with a low floor and high ceiling, and make it really big, but then I can still collide with the walls of the big sector, as if I'm in a giant invisible box. This is naturally not what I want (especially with it being intended for Cyberrunner where players could actually get to and use those walls potentially) but what can I do other than to make absurdly massive empty sectors?

I'll keep it short and sweet.
Some guy decides to start a Mario Kart style mod called Doomkart.

Then proceeds to samefag and shitpost his own mod, causing completely unnecessary drama.
Eventually creates a broken alpha that tells people to fuck off and puts it on public hosting.
It gets cracked to make it unbroken, people discover it's really not all that good anyway. He gets butthurt that it was cracked and starts shitposting even more. Starts shitposting a similar mod that came around at the same time called "Cyberrunner" which, unlike Doomkart, actually came out pretty fun. And the creator wasn't a drama hound.

Then goes under umpteen aliases to try and make other .wads, some of which intentionally crash computers.
Then tries to blame us for it.

That's the short of Doomkart.

No. Not possible. Why? Because on that one level with the "bruiser brothers" it checks for Baron of Hell Deaths, you'd have to change the map itself.

>> No.850567

Actually, you'd just have to redefine the Hell Knight so that it inherits from the Baron of Hell (if it doesn't already, anyway) and calls A_BossDeath in its Death state.

hell night should probably replace something smaller like demons and spectres and shit with low chance. I mean, hell knights are kinda weak for a boss fight. Maybe cacodemons, but they don't fly so it may not work in all situations.

mancubus would have to replace something of the same size and there really isn't anything for that to work with. Arch vile could replace barons, since they're closer tiered...

this depends on all sorts of factors:
- is the player doing maps in sequence or from pistol starts,
- does he have prior knowledge of the map or is he new,
- is he going for 100% or just exiting,
etcetc.

Is there a good WAD that explores just melee possibilities? I was doing a run of Vanilla Doom before with just my fists, and it was fun but when it gets to stuff involving a lot of shotgun guys im pretty fucked. There's a lot of weapon mods that mess around with different melee moves. Brutal Doom for instance with its left jabs and right hooks and execution finishers. The knife used in Zen Dynamics has several different attack patterns and combos.

There's also a couple weapon packs that are just all melee, but I don't remember what they're called right now. I'm sure there's more than one, but here's the one I remember: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=12393

So is Bural Doom LAN possible (and if so, how) or will I have to create an online co-op server, and make it private? I've only used Zandronum thus far, will it work with that?
