You really really get in to them if you live outside the city, and around wilderness. It's a setting you can imagine yourself in. They're not good, they're just very immersive.

There isn't really anything quite like it. Many games have tried to imitate it, but they usually fail horribly.

STALKER is immersive as fuck, but the actual gameplay balancing leaves a lot to be desired sometimes. SoC is brutally difficult for the first few hours, but then you become absurdly rich and powerful if you do any of the side content. The only time you'll feel challenged is during the end when you're fighting some OP hitscan enemies. Call of Pripyat starts off easy since it gives you a decent automatic weapon at the start, but it also ends easy for the same reason SoC is easy.

They're still worth playing despite the rough edges though. Once you're done with the vanilla games, there will be plenty of mods out there to keep you satisfied.

the book is a pretty quick read if you're into that sort of thing. there's a lot of stuff they re-used in the video games such as throwing nuts to move around

Love em but would never reccomend them unmodded, they're the eptiome of eurojank while vanilla.

The "phase" of the game that you're in that decides how you play is centered around your gear. FPS skill and game knowledge take your a long way to progress through the phases as smoothly as possible.

I've only played SoC, and it's a fun game that I replay from time to time, but very buggy at times. Also another anon mentioned balance issues, and the game uses the weapon health meme which means your gun may randomly jam after 5 bullets.

They’re perfectly fine vanilla. My first play through was vanilla for soc and cop and it was a resplendent visual experience. Classic games, favorite series of all time. CoP is a masterpiece.

AMK is fun if you're looking for a relatively simple Vanilla+ mod that also makes the game harder. Not the Autumn edition.
Other mods at least in my experience either add too much cringy content or suffer from bloat.

I played it unmodded and enjoyed it, no idea why every thread about this game is so hostile about retarded shit that doesn't matter and full of bait and arguments. Give it a few hours to see if the gunplay and atmosphere are to your liking, I'd say playing until Agroprom is enough for you to find out if it's your thing. I personally played the game around 3 times and always had fun, the atmosphere is great and the experience was fun, it's not without flaws but this guy >>8269379 should consider cyanide, it's just a PC game, play it however you like as long as it doesn't break/ruin the game or drastically alter it beyond recognition.

It means your gun is low quality and has shit accuracy. Its not damage its that you're missing. You need to get a mod that makes the accuracy more realistic without making the weapon repair mechanic useless

FPS with best atmosphere ever, very unique, no other FPS tops it.
I'm biased towards the game, being a Slav myself; it looks and feels like I'm playing it outside my town.
There are plenty of mods, there's usually a STALKER general on the dedicated board, be sure to check it out.
A mod or two fix all the bugs and shit, but leave the game vanilla, I'd strongly recommend that for the 1st playthrough.
