Dosbox filters people? You'd have to be a bonafide imbecile. All you gotta do is open the config file, scroll to the bottom and mount whatever folder you have your games in as the C: drive, then just do cd GAME followed by Game.exe or bat, maybe setup.exe and you're in game. It takes 5 minutes, maybe 10 if you have to Google it.

I can't believe these people have jobs. I'm a fucking ADHD dumbass and I can do it.

I doubt they even have that level of technical expertise. They'll double-click the DOSBox icon, see a black box with text, and they'll either give up there or type something noobish like "GAME" or "RUN GAME" without mounting any folders beforehand.

I'm trying to get my controllers set up in dosbox for the Commander Keen games, because fuck playing that shit with a keyboard.

It only supports "joysticks" and I've gotten to the point where dosbox recognizes and uses the analog stick on my various controllers as the joystick, but I want to bind the D-Pad to the arrow keys. However, dosbox won't let me do that in the CTRL+F1 remapping screen. What are my options?

Get your DOSBox in order first. Proceed to install DOSBox staging and set the scaling to pixel perfect.
Then download the Roland MT32 roms and setup Munt32, either within the emulator, or as I prefer it, as an external program with nice a midi monitor.

Epic Pinball - pinball with dope soundtrack

I believe, and that is a wild guess, he's refering to the fact that if you maximize the screen in Doom1+2, you lose the HUD. It disappears in max mode and is only visible one notch below.
Brutal Doom and such have that fixed and you get true fullscreen plus the HUD. Not sure about the other nonsense about always running.

Fullscreen is easily applied in options, you turkeyknob. There are however solutions to the other ones, if you wanna do it absolutely Old Style.

>>8267840
>Capslock enables always running.
Not in the original .exe, this is was added in sourceports and later official ports.
You can however trick the .exe into doing autorun for you by futzing with your .cfg and making it think you're holding down run when you're not.

>Doom has no vertical aiming, I dunno if you're speaking of DOSbox's general mouse support or what. What is this diarrhea you posted?
He means the 'mousewalking' which vanilla Doom has, ergo you push mouse back and forth to move back and forth. This functionality made sense in Wolfenstein 3D, where there is no difference anywhere in terrain, and no inertia to your movement, so you always stop on a dime and move at full speed without having to accelerate, hence allowing for some VERY slick and fast maneuvers once you get used to it.

In Doom, terrain varies wildly (sometimes changing on the spot), and there's actually inertia to your movement, having to actually accelerate to full speed, and having to actually decelerate to stop. As a result, this kind of control input makes the game handle very clumsily, making it easy to fall down into pits, get stuck on shit, as well as minute back or forth movement while turning interfering with your aim (horizontal turning). Some guys probably grew to like this, but the vast majority of people didn't, considering how it's always off by default in ports and is so seldom used by anyone that it's almost forgotten.
To disable this functionality in the original .exe, you actually had to use a hack such as novert. Again, being able to just not use this feature is something which has been added in later sourceports and official ports.

tl;dr DOSBox isn't necessarily the best way to have the true 1993 experience.

Hey I bought a cd version of Heretic and I’m trying to run it. It won’t install on windows 7, on windows Xp it installs and almost runs perfectly, but the sound breaks the game. (Maybe you guys can explain what soundblaster is and why it conflicts with windows XP) by disabling sound effects the game runs smooth. Sound effects enabled stutters and everything is choppy with a laggy frame rate.

I’m willing to try and install dosbox on the windows xp machine, not sure if it will run on the windows 7 machine. is the dosbox website, dosbox itself, and soureforge trustworthy? don’t want to get viruses on my machine. I’ll be downloading it on one machine and transferring dosbox to the machine I’m trying to play the game on.

I really am curious why sound effects are what’s fucking the game up.

The funny thing is, kids thinking about it as 'a bucket' are actually closer to the truth than Windows/Mac fags who think of it as folders and filing cabinents. Directories don't actually contain files, after all; they merely point to them.

That said, the 'folder' analogy, while technically being absolute balls, is a good way to make sense of it all, so it's kind of shocking to see it go.

Yes Dosbox works fine on Windows XP and 7. Before modern DAC you needed a sound card to hear music in your DOS games. Sound cards then were the Graphics cards of today. The reason why the sound doesn't work is probably because XP doesn't emulate a soundblaster card which Dosbox does. I wouldn't use the command prompt to run any Dos software on any NT based Windows (XP and up). Also Dosbox is safe and open source. That's why Steam and GOG use it for there repackages of Dos games.
