Is this game worth playing

its a solid rental

It’s absolute jank

Yeah, sure. It's a game that's pretty decent on a first playthrough. It's only really regarded as a bad game because it's so short and there's not much appeal to replaying the game, unless you only have 30 minutes and need a game you can beat within that short amount of time.

I think everybody that doesn't like the game secretly agrees the game has a lot of potential. It would have been great if it had more levels or if there were more objectives in the time trial modes.

It's definitely interesting. It won't be that fun but it's not long, satisfy your curiosity honestly.

PC version, yeah. Saturn version is trash

>> No.8254906

I found someone selling the PC version for 5 bucks but he's a state or so over. Is it worth it?

Saturn version is worse for gameplay but it had some cool lighting which you can restore with mods.

Sure. It's one of my favorite 5/10 games. It sort of has the foundations for a good game, it just has practically no content and has an awkward energy to everything. You can 100% the game in about 30 minutes. I guess if you think about it like an arcade game where you try to do so as fast and efficiently as possible, there's some kind of appeal there, but it just kind of comes off as dated and disappointing for a game ostensibly trying to compete with Mario Kart 64. Traveler's Tales are based and bring some unique charm to the game with its catchy eurodance/R&B soundtrack, but there's not even that many tracks for those. In the end though, it's a game with not a lot of content and not a ton of reason for frequent revisits. It's like the Sonic series' Pokemon Snap but worse.

My favorite thing about this OST cover art is that it uses Sonic's Adventure design nearly nine months before Sonic Adventure was first revealed. I'm assuming that's why you're using this image (unless it's to not be boring)

It’s bare bones as shit and is a racing game with tank controls. You can also finish it off in 45 minutes if you know what to do. But there’s a charm to it, in all its low poly glory. It’s a weird blend of collectathon and racing, sort of like Diddy Kong but extremely reeled back and nowhere near as possible. It’s still got a charm to it, and the music is great. I’d say give it a try at the very least

Fanboy headcanon doesn't make things real. It's just a mediocre racing game made by some guys.

>>8254578
Yeah, it's not bad. Just remember that you need to use the shoulder buttons to do cornering.

>>8254586
It would've needed a dedicated exploration mode (you kind of had it with the "find the balloon" mode), and maybe twice the level count. Perhaps adding some optional goal beyond getting good speeds - a boss fight or what have you. It's too bare content wise. That's it's only really big fault. Maybe it could've used modern platforming controls instead of tank ones, but for a racing game that was fine.
It also would've helped if it had a larger draw distance. In 2 player mode it was unplayable because even Turok allowed you to see more of the level.

Can you name a racing game that doesn't have tank controls?

>> No.8256594

>>8256582
Yeah, I can’t, you’re right. But since it’s on foot, it’s extremely weird and odd controlling

>> No.8256654

It's fun for 30 minutes, which is around the length of the game. Being too damn short is its biggest flaw

>> No.8256736

For a few minutes at least, just as an oddity.

The tank controls were actually added last second. Travelers Tales YouTube guy has a prototype online showing normal platforming controls. I don't know why they changed it.

I wanted to ask about this when I clicked on the thread. I knew it predated Adventure by quite a bit and the game itself even used classic Sonic artstyles. Thanks for the tidbit!
