The difference is that the NES version wasn't really trying to "recreate" the arcade; it's basically a reimagining tailor-made to the system limitations, and plays very differently.

there's this guy working on a "hack" like that, it started as a rom hack and became a recreation of the whole game with autistic attention to detail, however, he's been working on it for about ten years and he switches the game engine and starts from scratch every couple years, so I don't think he'll ever finish it.

What if it were Milky Way Wishes style powerups? And since we're fantasizing, you get to combine them like Crystal Shards so every one you find unlocks a progressively larger library of fusion abilities to progress and find treasures?

>> No.8252719

>What if it were Milky Way Wishes style powerups?
I considered that since it's the more traditional Igavania style, but at the same time, a lot of the challenge in the normal Great Cave Offensive comes from carrying abilities through an inconvenient area to a puzzle/barrier which can only be solved using said ability. If it was done Milky Way Wishes style, the powerups would have to be spread out much more slowly to prevent the game from being too easy from spamming Hammer all the time. That, or maybe a mana/energy system added to balance things, but that would also be a bit un-Kirby imo.

Fusions could be cool though. Alternatively, rescue your animal friends and then recruit them Kirby's Dreamland 3 style.

Not really no. There is a "hard type" but SotN has so many different OP moves it's hard to balance it all. In the hard type stat values are different but you can still spam spells or shields special attacks for instance

Even if fan modding could be trusted to properly deliver good design tweaks and balancing, it would require extensive playtesting by people unfamiliar enough with the game to provide good insights (and people unfamiliar with a game are very rare in a project build around said game if it's even anything but a one-man project anyway).

There's one called "SOTNFairAndKind" that supposedly redoes the enemy scaling to better resemble how Bloodstained did it (with optional weapon rebalancing and randomizing effects). I don't know how successful that was for the whole game as I only got as far as the Werewolf/Minotaur fight, but I definitely had to pay attention more as the enemies were tougher but still reasonable to beat.

It all depends on what you need. In the case of TMNT2, to make OP's pic work you need more palette slots than there are on NES.

You'd also notice that each turtle has its own unique animations but in TMNT2 the pattern table is already full with 2 turtles and it's not like you can swap the tiles when needed considering you need all at the same time.

tl;dr 4 player games on NES work because all 4 players use the same art and the same 2 palettes (or sometimes 3, leaving only a single part for the rest of the objects in the world);
