What mystifies me is why they forced players to decipher how the card codes worked on their own. It's like they knew it was less fun than TT and just made a point of turning into a puzzle so people would be embarrassed to admit they didn't get it.

it's so fucking easy to understand
>card has an arrow(s)
>it flips cards in those directions
>like LITERALLY ALL OTHER GEAR IN JRPG'S, you get better cards as the game progresses
>conveniently, the superior cards are deeper down on the grid
but retards on this board are like
>HJURRR WTF WHY DID THE CARD I GOT AT THE VERY START OF THE GAME THAT HAS ONLY ONE ARROW ON IT GET FLIPPED
Like fuck me this shit doesn't need explanation. I figured this out instantly by playing Tetra Master

Kind of a cop-out for such a long winded reply. Though I'm sure you're proud of "instantly figuring out" the arrow mechanics that are not mentioned at all here >>8253459, you simply ignore the actual card code mechanics, which were.
"Big number go Boom" isn't how a card game should be approached beyond a beginner level, anon.

Tetra Master is weird. Each card has 3x 0-F columns and an attribute M, P or X. Guessing those are [M]agic, [P]hysical and whatever X is. The columns are probably attack strength with the card's attribute, and the defence stat for Magical and Physical. Just sitting thinking that over kinda pieces it together, but I've been playing the game for 20 years and literally just came up with that, it's very unintuitive if any of that is anywhere close to correct. It's not like defence stats would even matter. Then you've got shit like cards levelling up which can increasing their stats or change attributes, if the latter happens a good card can turn into an absolute garbage one. Does anyone have any further insight into the mechanics? Or is this almost correct?

And you get like what, a key item and a rank for collecting every card? I've don't think I've done that more than once in FF9 whereas I've done everything card related in FF8 a bunch of times. I think I'd get as far as daguerro then spam airship cards and whatever else had big numbers. The 100 card limit was kinda shitty too.

The "stats" are power, class, and physical/magical defenses yeah. The class of the attacking card determines which stat the defending card uses. X is "flexible", which attacks the weakest of the two defenses. There's also an "A" class, which uses the strongest STAT against the weakest STAT in the other card, not just power and defenses.

Even if you may find the puzzle of eventually figuring out how it works interesting, the problem with the game (AS a card game) is that the power values are not actually absolute, just representative of a range in order for "battles" between cards to occur minimizing the chance of ties. Some might find that interesting, but as but it would be like adding dice rolling to a physical card game (I'm sure it's been done plenty, but for me it would be clunkiness working against the main idea of a portable game). Not to mention the randomized and upgradeable abilities of the cards themselves, which reduce the solid base of "collecting".

It's not that TM isn't interesting or fun, it's just that after the brilliant simplicity of TT it was kind of unnecessarily cluttered downgrade.na28v

the only valid explanation is that the devs knew it was shit so they marked "A POO" on all the cards but it came out wrong as "OPOO" due to the infamous Japanese Engrish
