Maybe not "ultimate" anymore, but it was pretty badass like 10 years ago. I remember mocking up a wiring diagram to make a nes controller that would plug into the wii mote for a more "authentic" feel lol

still very good if you plan on playing on a CRT

I think we are going to get to the point where people get 2010's era lcds for retro games in the future.

Finally got all the N64 .wads properly working on my pal machine.

N64 wad compatibility is still iffy though, many games like Banjo-Tooie still don't work.

Gross, they all unanimously sucked at displaying black while plasmas needed grainy video fuzzing to prevent burn-in.

I think future 7th gen nerds will either use computer monitors, dlp/3lcd projectors, or go straight to 4k oled sets with direct 4x upscaling of 1080p.
Maybe a few weirdos will dig up some pioneer kuros or flat OLED BVMs.

>adds frame of input lag, no run-ahead to counteract it
>too weak to do anything beyond 4th gen properly
>filesystem limitations
>storage limitations limit number of games you can have installed at once
>emulation is imperfect, even the VC stuff, with messed up resolutions everywhere
It was a solid choice 10 years ago when everyone had one sitting around and all you really needed was a classic pro controller to take full advantage of it. Now any laptop or PC can outdo it as an emubox. If emulating on CRT is such a big deal, you can get a Radeon X300SE with S-Video out.

>adds one frame of input lag

Look if you can't compensate for one frame of input lag on a crt then you are a mega autist. 1 frame of lag on modern day consoles is a fucking dream to anyone playing on a LCD

>> No.8250096

>>8250085
I can perceptively feel a difference with 1 frame of lag if I'm really focused on it and trying to pick it out, but I'm confident that at least 90% of players simply can't or never would. In a practical use sense 1 frame of lag is absolutely nothing to worry about. I can only imagine caring about something so trivial if you're a speedrun tranny.

donkey kong has slowdown on it's version of snes9x, the emulation in general is pretty garbage with bad sound.
it is the last console to output at 240p though, so there is that.
the wii is worth keeping for nintendon't, as the wii makes the best gamecube.

I want to love the Wii, but I can't because of the stupid Wiimote, same reason why I can't fully appreciate the Wii U because that stupid fucking tablet is much mandatory if you wanna use it.

I want a actual gamepad, not a TV remote. I know there's the classic controller, but you need to connect it to the Wiimote un order to use it which is bullshit.

Wii was cool in the day, but it's horrifically underpowered now. I would only recommend it because it's so cheap and has easy analog video output.

If you want good emulation which can rival FPGA-based solutions you need something beefier. Even a Raspberry Pi 4 does better.

Noice.

>> No.8250461

I'll never not be mad about not being able to navigate the system menu with a gamecube controller when the code is basically already fucking there for it with the classic controller.

I just want to be free of those stupid wii remotes

it wouldn't bother me so much if wiimotes didn't have attrocious power consumption while off. Like I want to be able to just pop in some AAs and forget about it but if you don't use a wiimote with batteries in it for like two weeks the batteries leak every fucking time.

Is this a joke? N64 comparability is bad, worse than a PC, and I say this agreeing that the wii is in most ways an ultimate retro solution. Not for n64 though, get an everdrive.

And where do I get good controllers? The N64 has notoriously bad hardware.
Oot mm and mk64 work Fine, don’t need any more games.
A good n64 set, would set me back at least 400€

Okay, so it was some kind of joke. You say you have solved the n64 problem through wii but you only want to play three games. If you actually want to play n64 you just need a console and everdrive, €250 at most. The controller is the controller the games were designed to be played on but you can buy 3rd party controllers that may be kinder on your zoomer hands.
Many n64 games are not playable on wii, period. The only guaranteed comparability lies with games that released on vc
