true and i do love both of them, i just think thrasher's approach to skating was more technical, grounded and fun, like tony hawk just finished the level when the timer ran out but in thrasher you had the pov of the security guard with the taser and could still bust a few tricks before he catches you.

Yeah, Thrasher is a great game at all but it's for a different audience. Funny thing is Tony Hawk was actually approached by Rockstar specifically for the Thrasher game, and he ended up turning it down because he felt it was too complicated and lacked a simple pick up and play quality. He speaks a little on this in the THPS documentary.

huh, that's pretty interesting, didn't know that
i loved tony hawk but i was also really into skating at the time and didn't like how effortless the game made skating feel.
thrasher's inputs were almost too technical but it still nailed skate culture way better, and shit like the security guards would later end up in skate which i think most agree is the zenith of the skateboard gaming genre. you have to have a little bit of the crime aspect or skating just isn't that thrilling i guess.
