As someone who only enjoys classic Castlevania, do any of the later games feel similar to the classics?

>> No.8245041

no. there's castlevania rebirth for the wii which was a throwback to the good castlevanias, but Igavanias are shit.

>> No.8245046

I basically only like the Igavanias. Nothing wrong with the originals, I just prefer the RPG ones

Circle of the Moon is the one metroidvania that has most elements of classicvania. It also wasn't made by Iga.

It actually came out a few months before Rondo, but try out the X68000 re-imagining of the first game if you haven't already. I like the arranged mode in the PS1 port a lot.

By classic, do you mean Rondo of Blood? Because if you like Rondo of Blood, you could probably get something out CoTM, PoR, OoE, maybe HoD. Those build off of RoB's having less linear level design and player character design. You could maybe even squeeze some fun out of SoTN's Richter mode, shit even PoR has a Richter mode in a much better designed game.

That's all supposing that Rondo is your favorite or something, going off of your pic. I would probably recommend those anyway otherwise, but still.

order of ecclesia is a good challenge based around weapon selection and movement, a lot like old castlevania. about half the levels are linear too
this board loves circle of the moon too so you could try it. nathan controls a lot like the belmonts at least. whip as your main weapon, run, slide etc

This
IF you're looking for 2D whipavania, there's not a whole lot to go around after SotN. They really branched into Igavanias and 3D Whipascots

No. And don't listen to the people saying CotM does, they have a very shallow view

None of them are exactly like the classics, but CotM and OoE are closer than the others for different reasons

Portrait of Run. It has stages and it's more action oriented than the others.

Not retro, but Rebirth is a classicvania and so is bloodstained curse of the moon

I say Order of Ecclesia is better for this

Seconding, but PoR has always been a close second for me. Not too surprising, given OoE was made after PoR and I think that PSP remake of RoB/SoTN?
