Is the EE mod for PC the best way to play this now? Or is the PS2 version on a CRT still superior?

>> No.8239902

EE?
*sniffle*
EE, we called her that, Emma Emiric
We use to play together
At the pool, she almost drowned I should have been watching her
Now Vamp, why
WHY
*sniffle*
I should have been there, I should have protected her, that's what big brothers do

Enhanced Edition updates the PC port with all of the upsides of the PS2 version that were originally missing from the PC port. If you want the ultimate experience but without any modern changes, install everything except the high-resolution image module, which changes the 2d screens of the game into high-resolution modern variants that were not present in any official version. All of the other changes that EE makes to the game are simply elevating the PC version of the game to the highest possible standard that the game in all its forms cumulatively achieved in official capacity. So, all of the upsides of every port combined and all of the downsides of every port removed.

You are downplaying it. A fun experiment for you: Leave a bright, static picture with vivid colors on with OLED brightness set to 100 for a minute. Just a minute. Flip to a dark grey screen. Just for fun. Now imagine what would happen if you left it on for hours by accident.
t. OLED owner

I don't think I could step down at this point but hoping Neo QLED has the local dimming, motion, and uniformity down enough by next year. I want to get away from this thing. Sick of wanting to turn brightness down for certain games out of anxiety.

>usually change a lot of pixels
Yeah but when you don't you feel it and agonize about it. CRPGs, VNs, and a few others tend to keep some elements exactly the same with no screen transitions for a long, long time. Most games at least flip screens just enough for it not to matter, but not all. The only smart mitigation is to turn brightness down wholesale and/or leaving that god awful distracting ABL on.

You're shill attempt isn't going to work.
Having to monitor your playtime and the type of games your play just to babysit your TV like it's a dog is tiring and this is coming from a 2014 Plasma tv owner. Even with bog standard image settings and pixel shifting, you're still gonna' have the image retention issue.

Again, haven't seen any of it, you say embarrassing attempted defense, if you ask me that is what you CRT fetishist do. All your arguments of why OLEDs are bad mostly come down on things that MIGHT happen. The only thing I can think of that CRTs are better in is refresh rate.

the software PS2 emulator you can use on jailbroken PS3s is literally superior to the HD collection. I've beaten SH2 for the first time on a slim PS3 like that, and it was almost 1:1 to playing the actual PS2 version aside from James' left leg disappearing in a cutscene shot or two.

What they mean by you "can't just replace" is that you need to follow their preset folder structure where modded files are in a specific new folder (sh2e). The download from the site is of course prepacked for that.

This is showcased extremely clearly here:
http://www.enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/troubleshoot.htm
Just scroll down and the entire game folder structure is shown.

Not that anon, but I installed EE without launching. I was under the impression that an original retail DC would not even work on a modern OS, and EE was supposed to introduce that compatibility, so there would be no reason to launch the game before applying the update. And I was able to apply all the modules of the update successfully, except the gamepad addon. A tank control game works better with a keyboard anyway.

>Apparently they started changing textures in EE to the point of it being newly thought up additions.
The update site states very clearly which changes are new additions, and they are specifically kept as a separate optional module. The 2d closeups of objects being examined are brand new upscales and therefore not part of the original game assets of any version or port. If you don't want them to be included, you can choose to only install the rest of the modules. They include assets that have only ever been officially released.
