Been going for the 1cc on this.
Early stages are a little too easy but the later levels were they spawn a bunch of ninjas to surround you on ever step are intense and tricky.

Why the hell did the Shinobi series fall into obscurity? It used to be huge and had tons of games. Too hard for newer players?

Most people that are interested in older games probably know Shinobi. I don't think it's that obscure.

can't improve on Shinobi 3 I suppose. Unless they give it a HD Remake which they should.

Oversaturation of ninjas. Not even joking.
So.
Many.
Ninjas.
One more "meh" side-scroller wasn't going to gain a massive following. I'm willing to bet the sequels weren't even originally intended to be Shinobi games, probably just started as more ninja games.

i don't understand why someone would want to 1cc a game that has been specifically designed to milk coins. it's like saying to yourself:
> i'm not retarded
then proceeds to continue smashing their own skull in with a hammer.

>Why the hell did the Shinobi series fall into obscurity?
sega knew that a game designed specifically to rape children of their coins in the arcade didn't translate very well to the home market when you still maintain the same insane difficulty levels.
>Too hard for newer players?
later games were very easy in comparison to the arcade - they had to be easier just to get people to play a dead franchise.

The game is pretty fair. It gradually introduces you to the idea that you need move forward slowly until you know whats going to happen before hand. Since the enemy patterns are mostly deterministic once you develop an approach you can relay on it pretty easily.

The game getting easier for each kid you rescue and getting a ninjitsu every life prevent it from being too strict.

Sorry you got filtered.

Here in /vr/ it's not that obscure. I'm pretty sure Joe Musashi represents Sega way more than Sonic or Alex Kidd.

We even had some healthy debates about one-hit-kills versus "live bar" Shinobi games.

Well Sega and it had a rough transition
>It used to be huge

>and had tons of games.

I've beaten shinobi plenty of times. It's a brutal game, not for tourists. I'm 100% certain you're the kind of low iq spastic that sits in front of machines at the casino and says that they know how to beat the machines and cheat the house, while you chase after thousands of dollars already lost
> I HAVE A SYSTEM!
1cc? shinobi? yeah. not going to happen by anyone on this board. learn to cope.

Good fucking luck. I've been trying to beat that game since 1987 and the best I can do is get to the last boss and lose.

>Why
Because no sequels other than system18 shadow dancer. And the home console pseudo shinobi games were shit.

Almost every retro Sega franchise is dead except Sonic and Streets of Rage, and SoR was dead until recently. Shinobi actually held on better than average. Shinobi 3DS is ok-ish and Joe was almost in SoR4 (iirc Sega forebade it because they're dumb).

I am working on a "hardest dips" 1cc on and off because I have already played Shinobi way too much. imo 3-4 and 4-1 are the hardest. Mission 5 eases up a little compared to 4.

It's one of /vr/'s weirder meme rivalries

It's pretty good, I'd say.

this one really hurts, even if the plan was only to use his retro sprites.

You're thinking of Ninja Gayden.
