When John Carmack helped formed the company "Id Software" he only had $11 dollars to his name. When the crew got their first paychecks after releasing Wolfenstein 3D, the first thing that Tom Hall and John Romero did was buy a car. What John Carmack did was buy a hot meal.

There's something really sad about nerds who get rich and make tasteless purchases like that. Who even wants a Ferrari? They're overly flashy and impractical, and basically bait for stupid rich kids. May as well buy a "gamer chair".

>> No.8215116

Did he buy it to research why exactly human beings require hot food for sustenance?

He bought it because it was a fast and high end car, and having worked on his own shitty car in the past, he wanted to work on a sports car as well. He basically wanted to 'optimize' it, make it as fast as goddamn possible, like the engines to his games.
He was actually dissatisfied with the Ferrari, because he knew it could be a lot faster, and was annoyed at how every car mechanic he talked to turned him down or gave him the answer he didn't want.

Coming across a racer and mechanic named Bob Norwood, he got the suggestion of putting a turbo in it, which was that Carmack was looking for. He got a lot of speed out of it, though eventually he would melt the pistons in the engine or something like that.

Ferrari always struck me as a whore brand, I remember they were slapping their branding on all kinds of merchandise even in the 2000s.
