/vr/, what do you recommend as far as FF7 mods? What settings for BFE?

>> No.821702

I just make all field models non-chibi, apply all the texture enhancements, the GUI mod, the anniversary (photo style) avatars and the reasonable difficulty mod.

Anything else is too much for me.

>> No.821705

I should add that I only modded the battle scene textures, the field textures took a toll on my PC since it's shit.

Everything is really up to your preferences, though. I'd say to get the 9999+ mod as well.

Why? That's part of the game's art style.

Only worthwhile mods IMO are the magic defense bug fix, the music mod, and perhaps the retranslation, although it's not finished yet, and it requires you to also install the menu reconstruction.

Not to sound like an idiot or anything but how do I download ff7 and mod it? This sounds amazing.

You need the 1998 PC version that's not the Ultima version, along with the official 1.02 patch, along with all this shit:

Dont.
Just don't use fucking mods. Maybe some gameplay mods (like magic defense). Otherwise, modding the game to look like it's 2013 is just silly, especially when Barret is waving his arms in the air like he's twerking. Just imagine how silly that would look with realistic models. This game was made that way, accept it.

What's next? Having FF8 models like FF7?

Whatever...

>> No.823421

I still can't believe that people truely think that models were chibi looking in FF7 due to "technical reasons".

Do you genuinely believe that a part of a town with just a background takes more resources than a battle scene which has a background AND tons of effects?

FF7 uses different models in battle&world just like previous FFs did. It was a trademark.

>> No.823472

I recommend the uninstall mod because it sucks.

>> No.823484

I'm pretty sure modelling chibi characters is cheaper and faster than realistically proportioned ones.

>> No.823497

>>823421
>>823484

I thought it was due to the fact 7 was one of the earlier console games on CD and it was a sort of hodge-podge of resources that were still being developed even up to it's release. Which is why some FMV were also in the chibi style and others were more detailed?

>Which is why some FMV were also in the chibi style and others were more detailed?
Some cutscenes in Xenogears used the in-game engine, some used pure CG, some used animation,...

To be fair, most FMVs used realist models except for non-complex ones that integrated well with the chibi models (IE: falling bridge in Nibelheim, parachuting in Midgar,... everything that was tightly integrated to normal gameplay).

>> No.823509

>>823506

I don't mean the sequences that have the world models over laid an MFV sequence but full FMV that include the chibi style like Cloud jumping onto the moving train in Midgar and the Midel earthquake.

>> No.823534

>>823509
the chibi cinemas existed because switching to the realistic model suddenly would be too off-putting.(and more expensive)

personally i wish they stuck with 1 style, because it almost feels like the chibi and realistic models are different people.

FF6 didn't.

>> No.824269

any good difficulty mods/hacks?

most of the ones i've looked into have pretty mixed reviews (e.g. they just seem like they bump up enemy stats while handicapping you)

>> No.824937

OP here, after trying multiple model combinations I've found the best route is to just use Classic Chibi and Chibi Rebuilded for everything. It's pretty much the only way not to fuck up the art style.

>> No.824967

>>822072
You can also use the new version of the game, but you have to use a conversion patch that makes it the 1998 version.

>> No.824983

The chibi models are the worst looking things in the entire fucking game. I wish there was a mod that just replaced the chibi models with better looking chibi models.

>> No.824997

>>824983
There was one being worked on. Some total overhaul thing. I don't know if it's still going or how far they got. I know they had a hi-res Chibi and Battle models for Cloud, though. Chibi models looking that good seems too surreal, though.

>> No.825004

>>824269
I'm not sure what you think difficulty is then.

>> No.825340

>>824937
OP here, disregard that all these mods suck.

No HD monsters, no HD Cid model, no HD anybody aside from Cloud and Barret really so shit looks inconsistent, FMVs still use PS1 chibi lego hand models, retranslation sucks, new soundtrack doesn't transition well, FMVs are poorly converted, the AC models look like shit and are way too realistic, a lot of shit just looks out of place with low poly models and high poly models next to each other.

It'd be nice if there was a total overhaul, but there isn't. So fuck it, I'm sticking with the original.

I bet you also filter the fuck out of the backgrounds, making them look like some kind of smudged painting.

Admittedly, they don't look very good upscaled to ridiculous resolutions, but fuck, I'll take that over "smoothing" them.
