Pic related is a big example. The low poly in the original game look more unique and appealing than the remake on PS1 which added more textures to make it look real and it already dated itself with that.

They aren't soul because they're low poly, they're soul because the dev team gave a fuck and put effort into what they did. They're soul because the limitations of whatever hardware stopped wasn't going to stop them from making quality. They're soul because they found the boundaries and pushed past them. They aren't soul because "high poly is soulless, low poly is soul." They're soul because they're made with an ingredient not oft found in many modern games; that is to say, love. They're soul because of the love for the process, the love for the job, the love for the sake of it. There is no soul without love, no matter how quirky or deformed your art style, how few or how many polygons you have in a game. You can't buy it, it can only be made by those willing to do so. Love is soul, and low poly doesn't necessitate love. This is probably a shitpost, but I'm still replying seriously because I feel like it's necessary to address it.
