Why can't people handle flashing lights anymore? Everything was perfectly fine until that fucking Porygon episode. Strobing didn't immediately go away, but now it's %currentyear and every game re-release has to have shit toned down because every pussy millennial and zoomie thinks they have epilepsy.

Back then when after hearing about that incident I watched a clip of the scene I actually thought that the weird blue-red flashing was a modification by the site providing the clip to tone down the REAL flashing.

This game is what took me to make this thread. the whole franchise in Japan made use of strobing lights at some point, like the OVAs and anime.
is it the specific strobing effect used in the Porygon episode? those colors and/or that interval with the dark contrast of the silhouettes (which apparently fucks with your brain too)?

>> No.8180846

The worst part about that whole incident is that this episode never aired outside Japan and Porygon was blamed and banned from appearing in the anime for what Pikachu and the animators did. Pokemon episodes got banned for the stupidest shit, stupid like Jynx getting recolored due to a chimp out, the Kadabra incident. Such a shame too because those banned episodes were great. Imagine getting seizures from an animated cartoon. And it affects old games like on Virtual Console by darkening the entire game and removing flash effects. They shouldn't be playing video games or watching TV.

If this was a real problem then surely it would have been well known and talked about, because it would mean such people couldn't watch television at all, since all TVs were CRTs. For a lot of people, the sound from the speakers themselves will drown it out enough that it doesn't matter, it also tends to be a lot more subtle with higher quality CRTs.
Most importantly though, is that once you get old enough, your ears will stop being able to perceive the frequency which coils whine at, so by now you really wouldn't hear it anyway.

>> No.8181685

>>8181673
I think it's absolutely a perspective thing, combined with aging technology. I remember hearing the high pitched sound as a kid come from some TVs, but only certain cheaper models. It didn't bother me though, because that's just what TVs did. I never thought about it until I hooked up an old CRT for the first time in over a decade and was put off by this noise that I was no longer accustomed to hearing. I think the noise is perhaps slightly worse/more common now due to the age of the TVs and monitors, but it was absolutely a thing back in the day too. We were just used to it.

I still hear the coils and I’m 28. I hear the on every consumer crt televison I’ve come across. I don’t hear them on my vga crt monitors but it’s a very late model so maybe that has something to do with it.

Mostly I was, but I would game quite a lot, and sometimes I could get 'worn down' by it. I have an actual epilepsy. Flashing lights doesn't do shit on me (I haven't tried to watch that Porygon episode though) but they tire eyes really, really quickly. I start, however, feeling intensely bad when playing japanese bullet hell games like Touhou or Giga Wing. Not him but for me, during the seizure proper you don't feel anything, you're unconscious. >Everything was perfectly fine until that fucking Porygon episode

Long story not so short, the pokemon porygon thing really did cause seizures, but the japanese media is just as dishonest, fear mongering and sensationalist as american conservative american media in the 90s and the 2000s and current woke left media today, it was all combining two different cases, one of intoxication and a couple of cases of legit seizures, and they went full pants on head retarded with it, and since then, japan demanded no more flashing lights in anime, and doing that dreadfull frame blending effect, and the pushup for ultra washed up color palettes in modern animation.

It was all because media fearmongerin and mass histeria.

Its also for example the reason Dragonball Kai had those horribly re-drawn scenes in photoshop, mostly for scenes that had mild flashy lights effects.

I'm nearly 36 years old and can still hear coil whine on CRTs and especially when charging phones. I also work construction so my ears aren't in the best shape.

They're doing that for budgetary reasons and to further destroy public education. Kids are just as tough today as ever and the fact you can "handle" annoying strobing lights doesn't prove you have grit you underachiever.

That's fucking rad. Gay brainlets ruin the media experience for the rest of us. imagine how intense and engaging media could be if we didn't have to cater to people whose brains shut down because some colors on screen changed

It was never fine, and game systems have had epilepsy warnings since long before that episode aired. Photosensitive epilepsy is not a case of being a pussy any more than an allergic reaction is.

You didn't want to start a thread, you wanted to start a fight. Fuck you, die in a fire.

. . . Isn't this effectively a fucking BAN on Porygon related storylines in the anime?
Regardless, I was fucking KIDDING about it, jesus fucking christ. Obviously none of them actually got banned.
I literally replied to a fucking post about not seeing a "cartoon 3D duck in a show", and not the fact a couple of children went to the hospital. Do you HONESTLY think a SINGLE reply to that would've been fucking serious?
Go fuck yourself, you unintelligent faggot.

What the fuck?

AGAIN, Americans are dumb. They believe in any headcanon and then makes shit threads like this. No matter what faggots think, flashing white light in Balan Blunderland or the absolute state of Sonic Colors Ultimate is not acceptable. Or even the shit old video games used to do either, like Sonic CD's 6th Emerald stage, or many fucking RPGS that did that shit too. It's not cool, and there are other ways to make an effect make sense without unneeded stimulation.

Then quit dogging on other nationalities with /int/sect lingo. Makes you come off obsessed. What's next, you gonna' start spamming how obsessed US media is with Blacks? Sounds like video games to me!

That's not relevant to the thread's topic though, retardo. But the headcanon that "Polygon was canceled" is American in origin. That's not /int/, it's objectively retarded headcanon.

>>8187780
I mean, it just proves my point. But when video games do have these moments, it's great to know most of this thread isn't filled with retards that truly things LSD tier strobelights is a "lost art".

Yeah, well, here's the difference between you and me. I fully know my intentions, and thus the tone of voice I want to use. I know EXACTLY how much sarcasm I should put into my posts.
You are not me. You are separated by hundreds of miles of wires, and know not my intentions. My sarcasm looks nothing more than retardation to you, because you cannot realistically predict that it was supposed to be sarcasm.
