It would have been worse if it tried to model a consistent time travel logic, because stories that do so fail 100% of the time unless every backwards travel creates a wholly new timeline and you cannot go back to the previous timeline, which would be boring for absolutely any time travel game.

Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force II, Surging Aura, Pier Solar on the Mega Drive; Seiya Monogatari: Anearth Fantasy Stories, Neo Metal Fantasy, Tenshi no Uta II, Linda Cube, amongst many, MANY others on the PC Engine/Super CD-ROM2; are but a handful of the vastly better JRPGs that you won't find on Nintendo.

I played Chrono Cross first so I was siked about playing this and was disappointed. It's good and the music is phemonenal(like Cross), but it was a real let down when I played it. And I can't even go by the argument that it was amazing at the time of its release. I played FFIV right before, and I assumed it came out after because CT felt really basic in comparison. I was shocked to find out IV came out a couple years earlier.
