What does /vr/ think of the Digimon World series? If you played them, which is your favourite?

The first one is the only good one.

A lot of good ideas, a cozy soundtrack, and it can be really fun but the tedium can make it hard to keep playing.

4 is shit.

Also the rest I've never played so I have no idea.

I always imagined this to be an action-adventure letting you wreck shit up with Metal Greymon and others. Once I finally emulated it a few years ago, I was sorely disappointed. Do snoys really??

>> No.8146206

i prefer 3 because it's more of a typical JRPG instead of the dungeon crawler hybrid thing of 1 & 2. they're all miserably grindy though
and >>8145871 4 is absolute shit

>> No.8146216

1 is a very interesting little thing. The whole pet raising/fighting slash exploration, while being kinda cryptic, was still absorbing.
2 was Mysterious Dungeon with 3-on-3 monster battling
3 was pretty much just a JRPG with Digimon.
Never played 4, heard it was an action RPG or something.

1 is my favourite game ever

Only played the first one, and i like it
Didn't play 2 and 4, and played some very little of 3, so i don't remember it that much

First one is awesome. Other ones aren't so good.

I like 1 the best. 2 I need to understand better my understanding is dna digivolving only increased level threshold by 1?
3 was pretty good didn’t play much after that. Any standouts?

>Any standouts?
the "digimon world" line is weird because the localizations world add or remove "World" from titles seemingly at random
the card battle game is alright if you like that sort of thing
the data squad game isn't digimon world in japan but it is in english. decent little jrpg.
after that they started the digimon story line. not /vr/ but those are all fairly standard JRPGs too. the japan only adventure 1 game is alright and the cyber sleuth games are good

Played the first game on Bleem as a kid. Had no fucking clue what I was doing.

All three looks interesting in their own rights. Always wanted the play the first and the third, but still haven't. Eh I wished I could but i have not enought time right now. Not retro, but I loved Cyber Sleuth 1 and 2, so I won't dislike 3 anyway it seems.

>> No.8149080

>>8148537
Well yeah if you liked Cyber Sleuth you'll settle into 3 just fine. There's also Digimon World: Next Order which is a legitimate modern sequel to 1.

I love Digimon World 1. Re:Digitize and Next Order are some of the most soulless attempts to revitalize an old game I've ever seen.

Dude, I played Digimon World 1 and 3 a lot as a kid.
Digimon 1 was quite hard and had insane requirements to evolve to a good digimon, but the artistic direction is top notch, the music is comfy as fuck and the world is original, unique and immersive.
I had Digimon 2 too, but I never enjoyed it. Felt like a low quality dungeon crawler with some digimon textures.
Digimon 3 is the one I played the most, hundreds of hours, and the only reason I didn't finish it was because of a damaged disk (bug on the third island). Again, amazing music and artistic direction, specially in the cities. The 3D during battles was quite good too. The only possible drawback would be some backtracking.
Bonus: Digimon Cyber Sleuth. I know it's a modern game, but it's the first Digimon game I played after almost two decades. With it's drawbacks, it's considered the best digimon game ever made, I just with it had better artistic direction, because many areas felt procedurally generated and sterile.

My opinion of Digimon World is it gets overrated as a Monster Raising sim when Monster Rancher 2 rarely ever gets discussed and is much deeper. However the first Digimon World does have a unique mix of the more management style monster raising with the sort of JRPG gameplay you would find in a more basic game like Pokemon. That still doesn't make it a better experience than Monster Rancher 2 in my opinion, but it can be worth a play.

>> No.8151276

>>8150583
It's funny because I always felt the Monster Rancher concept would make more sense as a Digimon game. Generating monsters from CD data is a very Digimon concept.

You're not wrong and from a pure design aspect Digimon designs are more interesting and varied than Monster Rancher's (although there is gameplay benefits to that simplicity). Monster Rancher 2 is criminally underrated, and the only monster taming game that ever really embraced the management aspect of the genre fully.
