4 is the hardest Goemon ever, man. The final boss can totally destroy your controller.

2 is definitely my favorite, I own both this one and the japanese Legend of Mystical Ninja, along with all the Famicom games.

Yeah if your vocab is enough or you're cool looking up you should be fine. If I remember correctly all the SNES Goemon's just stuck with hira and kata. I think they might have even thrown in furigana for the kanji IIRC.

I mean furigana if kanji was even used. I honestly can't remember if they used it on things besides in game store signs and such.

Fucking nice, I need to get around to buying a real copy myself sometime. GG3 and both 64 games but I just love 2 so much.

Kinda bummed the series is looking retired even in Japan. That pachislot stuff really got my hopes up and crushed them.

I never played any of the 2D Goemon games other than the 1st SNES one, but I'm planning to buy Goemon 2 for SF soon, since a local seller has it for a decent price.
I could also emulate, and I was actually going to start Goemon 2 for NES now that there's an english patch, but I keep procastinating.

Aside from the 2 N64 masterpieces, I have played one of the 3D games on the PS1 and the DS one.
The DS Goemon is probably one of the best in the series from what I have played and seen.

And no Goemon thread is complete with some Goemon music

- Ganbare Goemon (Famicom)
- Ganbare Goemon 2 (Famicom)

- Ganbare Goemon (Super Famicom) - AKA Legend of the Mystical Ninja
- Ganbare Goemon 2 (Super Famicom)
- Ganbare Goemon 3 (Super Famicom)

- Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)
- Mystical Ninja 2 Starring Goemon (N64) - AKA Goemon's Great Adventure

Nope.

Here is a complete list of every Goemon game available in English, either through official means or through fan translations. (localized titles used for games that have them)

Ganbare Goemon! Karakuri Dōchū (Famicom)
Ganbare Goemon! Karakuri Dōchū (MSX2)
Ganbare Goemon 2 (Famicom)
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja (SNES)
Ganbare Goemon: Sarawareta Ebisumaru! (Game Boy/Color)
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (Game Boy)
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64)
Goemon's Great Adventure (N64)

Aeon Genesis said they were working on translating the 2nd SNES game, but there's been no update about that in years.

And the 3rd and 4th SNES games are supposedly being translated by a guy called MagniusKun.

The writing in the game is always hilarious though, it has that vibe like the developers learned english themselves so they could tell their own Japanese style jokes. Wario Land shake was one of my favourite Wii games. Lovely visuals and nice music, and a really fun game to just explore, find all the secrets and get 100%

I'll have to give it a try, more so now that I know the Goemon guy worked on it.

GGA is hard, but you just gotta keep playing. It has the feeling of those old NES platformers, except in N64 graphics.
Boss battles are also pretty hard, you just gotta keep very cautious at all time, read well the patterns and don't give up.
The impact battles become much easier once you correctly do the special moves (press start, and you will see a list of all the special moves you can do)... after that it's all timing, remember to switch from Impact to Ms. Impact (aim for the other impact and press R)... Impact battles are hard too, expect to lose, but once you get the hang of it it's fun, as well as bizarre.

It's not an extremely long game (much shorter than the first Goemon 64 game), but it's challenging and the levels are pretty big and have multiple paths, you will need to go back to old levels to search for more entry passes (theres 44 entry passes in total, once you get them all... there's some small surprises)

As someone else said, the poles' trick is to press and hold the stick UP when you jump. It's always tricky until you figure it out, then you'll breeze through them.

To all those who are complaining about GGA being too easy - who were you playing as?

Goemon's double-jump is stupidly broken: you can breeze through the entire game with that, or you can fumble with Ebisumaru's blocks, or struggle with Yae and Sasuke.

Why is Goemon the only one to have a double jump, anyway? Shouldn't they all do?

Except for maybe Ebisumaru, he may be cool but he's kind of heavy.

Speaking of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, what are your favourites locations and music from the game?

I've always loved the Tosa region with the Vine Bridge, the Folkypoke Village, Kompira Mountains and Dogo Hot Springs. It's supposed to be Shikoku island.

I like every track from the OST, they all put a smile on my face, but the ending theme is just glorious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emvk7U4efSw

Concerning dungeons, my fav is Gourmet Sumbmarine, closely followed by Festival Temple.

That was also my favourite region from the 64 game.

I know Kompira is in Kagawa, and Dogo is in Ehime. And there's a famous vine bridge down in Kochi (Iya no Kazura Bashi). So where in Tokushima is Folkypoke based on?

>Kompira-san, in the village of Kotohira in Kagawa Prefecture on Shikoku, is a large mountain-side Shinto shrine complex dedicated to the guardian god of seafarers.

Folkypoke might actually be Kotohira, look at how faithful is Goemon's version

There's very little info on him, but I love when the NPCs talk about him, like the girl that says "I think I saw something I wasn't supposed to", or the kid in Spook Village that imitates him and mentions his mom hates him doing that. This on GGA, I can't remember in other games right now.

Also, if you have PS3, you can get a free Ps plus japanese trial for 15 days, and amongs the games available, it's this Goemon title. It plays mostly like the SNES games I think, I only played it a bit and couldn't get out of town yet, but it seems to be geat. The opening was hilarious.
You can only play the game for 15 days, but I think that's enough time to complete unless I get stuck.

IIRC there was an island called "Musashi" in Goemon. The music was absent, there was just the sound of waves crashing against it. I assume it's supposed to be Ganryujima, which was named after the guy Musashi killed IRL...but in the game it is named after Musashi.

That's my assumption anyway.
