Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken for the SNES definitely feels like a licensed game based on an early 90s mech space wars anime, only there's no such anime. Awesome, memorable music, great graphics, and fun gameplay.
If you want to play it in English, download the prototype ROM that's out there, as the most notable difference is that it retains the Japanese version's anime portraits which were cut for the final US release.

This is some retarded game design right there. Why take away life points and guns when falling into that one pit? Why the second character and all the password disks are REQUIRED to even harm the final boss?

The bosses have a pretty consistent pattern. It's possible to even stand in a certain spot for some of them and not get hit. Keep in mind only certain weapons, work on certain bosses. You can look at a guide, or learn from trial and error. I remember the axe weapon being very effective on a couple of the bosses.

Make sure you pick up your teammate Iris in level 5, or you're fucked and can't beat the game.

Skip the first season, it’s really awkward and you can tell most of the cast and crew were just trying to find what worked, plus it’s embarrassing when they deliver a joke you can tell they thought was hilarious and the audience just quietly chuckles. It’s like the first season of Red Dward if you’ve seen that. S2-4 are all just pure genius though, every episode is solid gold

True, but he’s the sole good part of the series and everyone who worked on it thinks it’s awful now. It’s not worth sitting through the 3 or so hours of unfunny tedium to see a few Blessed scenes

>> No.8167871

>>8167802
The first season of Red Dwarf is really good though. Arguably the characters and general atmosphere of the show are at their best in the first two seasons, when they're really committed to the idea of it being a show centered on two men trapped hopelessly in deep space. It gets more "fun" later, but you lose the melancholy.

>> No.8167882

>>8167869
I wouldn't call it tedious. There was a lot of growing pains early on as they worked things out but there was some good bits. Plus the whole thing is only 6 episodes. British TV seasons are super short for some reason.

>> No.8167919

>>8167871
Not saying S1 of red dwarf is bad, a lot of it is really funny, but like the first season of Black Adder, you can see they were still trying to find their identity. RD’s first season is very unique and interesting with the whole cat god story and how weirdly sad it is at times, but there’s still a lot of awkward pauses, jokes that fall a bit flat, an unresponsive audience, etc. Best example I can think of is in the very first episode where Lister asks what an aardvark is, and Craig pauses for the audience to laugh but there isn’t a fucking sound. It’s stuff like that that’s really really awkward and makes the whole thing difficult to sit through at times, and it doesn’t have the same rapid fire great joke after great joke of S3-6. It’s unique and probably the most human of the series, but you can see why people prefer the later seasons
