So who did you use in Cadash back in the day?

This game with 4 players (2 cabinets linked) in the arcade was amazing when it first came out.

It was like a multi-player wonder boy in monster land (in terms of buying stuff at shops, exploring, secret money bags hidden around) but more AD&D based.

Loved cadash. played it at the arcade at the camp my grandparents went to. It was there for years and one summer they switched it out. they switched out all of the games. Now there is only busted shooters, busted DDR and a stacker with only rubber ducks.

Ninja

The mermaid had great tits by 1989 standards. Even though there were no nipples I am amazed they left her topless in the western release.

Ninja, all day every day.

The real question is, who did you use in the genesis port of Cadash back in the day?

>implying mage isn't unplayable

I beat it with both on genesis. The wizard just needed to grind a bit more to level up enough in each new area. On genesis it was easier because the arcade version had the aggressive hourglass.

Thank God. I was wondering when I would see a Cadash thread on /vr/

Ninja all the way. The strongest class in the game. No, the Priestess is NOT the best class in the game. The motherfucking ninja is.

The priestess is for newbs who have to rely on her shield spell, and who have trouble getting past the graveyard.

The princess in this was one of the first "anime-style" girls I ever say in an arcade game. They never had full-screen closeups of characters like this before.

the PCE version was so much more superior to the Genesis version it wasn't even funny.

1) All 4 characters.

2) Updated colorful graphics.

3) No missing bosses.

4) Proper enemy AI. in the genesis version, the fucking monsters would follow you down ledges and land on your head as you were climbing down a rope.

and then the dragon flying off with her. The demo for this game was fucking sweet

All other D&D/fantasy arcade games were just "final fight but with swords". (Pic related).

In the mid 80s japan did try some arcade RPGs with XP, stats, stores, etc but the trend never caught on. Xanadu is a good example of these.

Wait not xanadu, that was not arcade...

nigga you crazy?

D&D (capcom) is just final fight with swords?

How about:

levels that increase your hp and weapon level and effectiveness of magical items
multiple weapons per class
class-specific spells from utility (invisibility, bless, haste) to damage
thief can backstab, steal, detect traps
branching levels
Shops
Inventory with healing items, offensive magical items, etc.

Have you ever played "Knights of the Round"? Because THAT game is just "final fight but with swords"

Shadow over mystara is much much more.

Agreed. D&D Shadow Over Mystara is quite possible the best beat-'em'-up ever made because of all this shit. And those spells. Fuck yes Flesh to Stone. Would suck many a dick for an original cabinet of this game.

That was Tower of doom pictured. It was a lot more limited compared to Mystara.

But yes Shadow of mystara was epic.

BTW you guys should also check out Light Bringer by Taito.

It's probably Cadash's spiritual successor (also made by Taito)

It's a beat'em up, but it's more like a Landstalker/Final Fight hybrid isometric beat'em up with a HEAVY emphasis on breaking everything in site and opening up hidden areas. TONS of secret areas in this game. A lot of freedom in choosing your own route through the dungeons.

The characters are NOT balanced.

Vold the wizard is ridiculously overpowered once you get his elemental staves (you can get one about 3 minutes into the game). Since Taito made the wizard so damn difficult to use in Cadash, it's nice to see them do a wizard character justice in Light Bringer. He makes the other characters look like chumps.

Gren: Looks like that ninja guy from the manga Bastard. Great character with an awesome forward, forward+attack

Cisty: Ranged character. Very fun and effective character.

Ash: The main character. don't bother using him unless you want a challenge. Very weak.

There are level ups. All they do is increase your HP and shorten the charge time on special moves.

There are about 5 weapons that you can find. 3 of them are elemental. 1 is holy. and 1 is physical (more damage from physical attacks and higher chance of critical hits).

The mice that you can pick up increase your chance of critical hits. Do not get them if you plan on using Vold because he has the best and easiest infinite combo in the game. Only get it if you plan on getting the Purple weapons (the critical boosting weapon).

If it's your first time playing, choose Vold to get the hang of the game. You do charge attacks by holding the attack button. Once you get the Fire staff, hold onto it until you get the Holy Staff. Don't bother using your regular combo against normal enemies. Use the charge attack. Once you get to a boss, use your combo in this way --> punch, pause, punch, pause, punch, pause repeatedly. That's an infinite combo, and it works on about half of the bosses.

>> No.812529

>>812519
Snake boss: 1 or 2 fully charged attacks should kill him with Vold using the fire staff.

Knight boss: back off and use regular charged attacks with any staff.

Spider boss: infinite combos

Demon boss: infinite combo

Return of the Knight: By this time you should have the HOly staff. Use fully charged attacks.

Final Boss: corner him and use regular charged attacks with practically any staff.

Seriously, Vold is so powerful and easy that I 1-coin-cleareed this game on my 2nd or 3rd try.
