>why is [item less in demand] less expensive than [item more in demand]

in all fields

>> No.8118410

Because most people don't speak Japanese, and Japan has a more throwaway culture when it comes to media compared to the West. I feel it also has something to do with them taking better care of their stuff. 80 bucks buys you a loose cartridge of FF3 US, or boxed copies of 4, 5, and 6 for the SFC. Could probably get even better prices if you buy from Yahoo auctions through a proxy, since you won't have to pay the filthy gaijin tax.

>> No.8119393

I actually did tell you man. All my collection was imported games.

>> No.8119427

Imports are always cheaper
Here in my chosen european shithole NTSC-U games are cheaper than PAL versions and NTSC-J games are basically worthless
A decent amount of jap imports are fully playable even if you don't speak japanese

>why do americans only want games in english? It's really weird isn't it

>> No.8119439

23 dollars is insanely overpriced for cart only of that game. That's a healthy gaijin tax right there.
If you haven't started learning Japanese by now, you're probably too late to take adequate advantage of this. The market will be made retarded soon because there are a lot of people discovering this fact now that American prices are truly untenable.
That said people will definitely be buying Japanese games just to have them with no Japanese comprehension, making the games even more likely to rot on shelves unplayed than American coomlector copies.

Boktai, or Pokemon Pinball which had rumble in the cartridge.
Technically both games are perfectly "emulatable" but I know what you're getting at.

Boktai? Technically emulatable but no sensor. Also, Kirby tilt b rumble.

>> No.8119464

This is why I always tell people to buy consoles from Japan and use flash carts or mods on them. Helps if you're also willing to open them up and do some repair work too.

You can if you want to dump a barrel of cope on it and use the patch. Please don't start directing coomlectors to the Japanese market. You're gonna ruin it even more for people who actually play games. I'm already seeing prices spike for platformers because you don't need to know Japanese for them.

For a lot of games, language barrier isn't a problem. The term import-friendly exists for a reason, lots of games aren't text heavy, and a surprising number of games are entirely in English in their Japanese release.

Japanese games have kept their value pretty well, even through the pandemic and every 18 year old spending their Biden bucks on video games. It has gone up some but people are going to want the versions they grew up with so I think the Japanese versions will be fine.
