15 years ago, today, this game was released. Say something nice about it.

OK. Yakuza is a great game, and the remake made it better.

That was from the sequel. But this scene in particular is what turned the series into 'Japanese gangsters doing wacky and uncharacteristic things'.

>> No.8117105

Never played it or cared enough about it to consider playing it or watching gameplay. Also,Fuck ps2.

it has a pretty unique feel to it compared to what the later games became, I think it’s still worth playing. Kiwami kind of ruins its tone.

It only took 4 more main entry games to reach the breadth of Shenmue.

really can't get into yakuza. Wish we had more shenmue

I recently started playing this on RPCS3.
It's so weird having played Yakuza 1 so many times on PS2 only to see it look so crisp and clear at 4K with the remaster. To a degree you lose some soul, but far less than emulating it on janky-ass PCSX2 or playing Kiwami 1.

I wish they'd do a proper re-release of the game.
Make it 60fps even if you have to interpolate like KH did for its PC remasters, give Yakuza 1 some of the QoL changes Yakuza 2 had (or at least have that be toggleable) and otherwise just port the HD versions as they are to modern consoles/PC.

I know they WONT do this because zoomers unfortunately run this franchise now and they seem hostile to the idea of the PS2 games and so SEGA is going out of its way to wipe the existence of the PS2 games from the map.

Too bad Shitpoo is a boring slow piece of shit compared to literally any Yakuza game.

You mean an immersive and atmospheric game compared to playing in Yakuza Recycled Assets backed by butt rock with canned soundclips of guh nani etc?

Yakuza is trying too hard for me man. It's a total zoomed/normies game. I don't find any of the main or side content engaging

Let's not forget that Shenmue killed Sega whilst Yakuza saved them, yet hipsters pretend the former is some underrated masterpiece.

They should've made the original (or rather, the HD releases) versions pre-order bonuses for the Kiwamis, then again I can't trust publishers to make a good port of a decades old game. Shit like "GTX 970 minimum" for a Ps2 game that's still locked to 30fps.

This series would not exist if not for Sony because MS and Nintendo weren't interested in helping to market it initially. There would also be no more localizations after Dead Souls bombed if Sony didn't fund the localization of 5.

Shitmue is garbage that killed SEGA and the Shitcast

I'm curious how things would be if Yakuza, as we know it, was a GameCube title. From a development standpoint it makes sense, Nagoshi and his team were very familiar with the console, and Nintendo would likely want something to compensate for not having GTA (even if it they are only thematically similar). Would it be like a Geist situation where only one game was made and that's as far as they went? Sega also had good standing with Microsoft, and at the very least Microsoft could fund a sequel or two.
