Create a list of retro games in the Super Mario series ranked from best to worst. (the original FDS Super Mario Bros. 2 was added by me.)

I'm following you with Super Mario Bros. at the top, then Super Mario Galaxy, then Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World.

Then you go and put New Super Mario Bros. (DS) above Super Mario Bros. 3, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Sunshine and even Super Mario All-Stars. You may dislike the aesthetic changes in Super Mario All-Stars, but how is it worse than New Super Mario Bros. to be at the lowest tier?

Also, I'll never understand the bone people have to pick with Super Mario Sunshine. If you love Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, how is Super Mario Sunshine D? I understand not preferring it, but what makes it so irritating? People only come up with the most deflective criticisms. ("I don't like the FLUDD. I don't like the camera.") I have yet to read a constructive critiicsm from anyone who finds Super Mario Sunshine to be vastly inferior to Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. I can get behind people who dislike it as much as Super Mario Galaxy since at least they just think it was all downhill after Super Mario 64 which I think is more consistent and also an opinion I can sympathize with. I think Super Mario Sunshine is much better than Super Mario Galaxy and if I was including non-retro games in my tier I'd have put it at B, a full tier below.

If Super Mario RPG is below Paper Mario which is only at C, I'll assume RPGs aren't your thing.

You're a stereotypical Paper Mario fan that was bitter about the direction the series took after Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door, though understandably so. I call you a Paper Mario fanboy because you also clearly vastly prefer it and Super Mario RPG to the mainline series. Super Mario RPG and the first two Paper Mario games are at S, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 64 are merely at B, Super Mario World is as low as C, and Super Mario Bros. 2 is even D. (on this note it's funny that you hate the two most recent Paper Marios so much they're below even that. And you clearly think Mario & Luigi took a turn for the worse also.)

Why is Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros so much worse than Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time? lol

I couldn't fathom putting the first Super Mario Bros. at D and Super Mario Land at B. What do you have against Super Mario Bros, the original that started it all. (It also really makes me wish the tier included Super Mario Bros. 2 FDS/Lost Levels to see you put that at a wildly different tier from the original.)

>Super Mario RPG to the mainline series.
I enjoyed the story and world, also the art direction was far superior it gave me somewhat of a challenge when I was younger because at that point platformers had become much too easy for me.

>Galaxy
Something like this wasn't even fathomable before it was released.
>Super Mario Bros. 3
It was great for what it was and had intersting power-ups and levels, but it didn't stand the test of time.

>Super Mario 64
Innovative, but it was really just a tech-demo for what was to come. It aged poorly compared to the top row.

>, Super Mario World
again art direction and music. Those sprites aged like shit. Also it was piss easy even when I was younger, cleared the mondo levels with ease.

> Super Mario Bros. 2 is even D
piss easy, could clear it when I was 9, alot of repedative shit in gameplay, it's not even a mario game, it's doki-doki panic. Also many of the enemies like fry-guy and mouser are shit tier designs

>Why is Mario & Luigi Dream Team Bros so much worse than Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time? lol

Art direction went down the fucking toliet, Massanori Sato was ejected from art direction from the project and started making characters that looked like fucking reject muppets, and it was in a really dull setting.

Interesting to see people prefer the first Super Mario Land so much to Super Mario Land 2, and Super Mario Galaxy so much to Super Mario Galaxy 2. I'm curious for the reasonings. I think both Super Mario Lands are about on par but do prefer the first for being more original.

But how is Super Mario Galaxy 2 worse than the first one, besides being more derivative?

Besides Super Mario Bros. Special, which I don't think warrants a place on the list, none of these count. (they're not Super Mario games.) I think it's inconsistent the tier includes Luigi's mansion and Yoshi's New Island at all. (because then where's Yoshi's Island DS?) It should be limited to Super Mario games and RPGs, but if it were to include Super Mario Run, it might as well include the entire Mario Kart series.

You could argue Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island shouldn't count if we really want to be "consistent" here, but the first Wario Land absolutely doesn't count as part of the Super Mario series. If there were no other Wario Land games then you'd have a point on your hands, but that spawned a whole series and four direct sequels if you include the Virtual Boy one, (seven if you include Wario World, Master of Disguise and Shake It) there's enough Wario games to warrant its own tier list.

You have a very cozy bed, and strong opinions on Super Smash Bros. You see yourself as both a defender and a peacemaker. Usually play Yoshi in the spinoffs.

You are convinced you exist on a level beyond human comprehension. The messages in your dreams are telling the truth. Either Birdo or Boo is your character of choice.
>>8117287
Big lore dude. If someone asked you why the borders of the Mushroom Kingdom and shape of Mushroom Castle consistently change, you'd have an answer. You would play as Luigi if you played any spinoffs, but you usually don't.
>>8118005
The lone wolf. You seek to improve your skills even if you find yourself pushing others away. You don't lack creativity, but you have a plan in mind. One of the few people who actually plays as Mario in the spinoffs.
>>8118038
May be defined as a "zoomer" in some threads, but you've done your research. You laugh at people who try too hard to be subversive and contrarian, and seek to learn the rules before you break them. You can win a lot of the time as Toad, even if you don't like the character personally.
>>8118274
You can name the influences on Mario's artstyle, and the unique traits each team member brings to the direction of the world and emotions. Though very strong-willed, you never make an opinion on something without at least trying it. You play as Rosalina whenever possible, and occasionally masturbate to her.
>>8118750
You appreciate Mario, but deep down you're really more of a Sonic fan. You get paranoid about "mandates". In spinoffs you either choose crossover characters or Miis.
>>8118785
Intelligent, Nihilistic and with a Wicked Sense of Humor. You've replayed your favorite games many times and like seeing new mechanical discoveries. Funky Kong player.
>>8118846
The gnawing emptiness of the void consistently follows you. Every day seems a little less magical, like you're losing your ability to enjoy old things. There's no hatred, you just want change. Koopa Troopa player.

>> No.8123714

>>8118984
You laugh uproariously at YouTube Poops, and seek the first editions of comics. Slight phobia of water. Miyamoto's views on level design and storytelling really resonate with you. Wario player, you never interact with Waluigi players.
>>8119325
Your Japanese skills are constantly improving. Fan of highly-saturated colors and fold-out manuals. Your day is very strictly regimented and focused on specific tasks. Donkey Kong player.
>>8120878
You oftentimes have trouble empathizing with others' problems, but you have a hard time getting worked up over trivial things. Love/hate relationship with portable systems. Likely a close relationship with a sibling. Daisy player.
>>8120903
Having a trouble getting a read on you, and I think a lot of people do, too. Big fan of experiments and new directions. You've only played a couple of spinoffs, but you like using the Koopalings or Bowser Jr. if they're there.
>>8122329
You're getting up there, but still have some spit and vinegar going around you. Mostly settled and content with the way things are going for you, and quick to both share your knowledge of things you like and go on rants. You play as Bowser, especially in Smash.
>>8122432
"Meh." You don't always have time to dedicate to games, but you do make sure to look out for things that interest you. Pretty good reader. You're one of those guys who selects "random" for both character and stage selection.
>>8122621
Adventurous, unbiased, you have fun watching people discover new things. You're part of vtuber culture or something similar. Maybe a gardener. You play as Peach, but feel strongly about her characterization in spinoffs.
>>8122674
You used to post cringey memes and feel bad about it today. Good taste in movies and you organize watch parties often. Waluigi player.

The most important thing to you is getting away from it all and losing yourself entirely in something. A decent amount of friends, but you still deeply value alone time. Yoshi player.

It was actually changed at the last minute, which is why one or two magazine previews still call it Super Mario Bros. 5, so "Super Mario World 2" is actually not a total invention of localization. The devs keep flip-flopping on whether it's considered part of the core platformers or not.
>The purpose of my comment is that if anything neither Yoshi's Island or Wario Land should be present since they belong to their respective series.
They can exist in both series at once. Sekien Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden (Final Fantasy Adventure / Adventures of Mana) is considered both a Final Fantasy spinoff and the first game in the Mana series as the full title does not preclude the other.
