Is it worth playing?

>> No.8110516

Yes. Good graphics, good music, fun gameplay.

>> No.8110526

All MegaMan (original) games are good and worth playing.
It's the X series where some of them are shit

>> No.8110534

Yes
Mega Man rocks

>> No.8110569

It's good and I'd rank it mid tier among the classic series.

The graphics are its biggest novelty and it's worth playing for that alone.

Fantastic game, don't listen to >>8110682 the Sega kids have it backwards, the PS version has the best music, graphics and load time.

I know this is a super hot take, but it could be considered a Top 3 of the original series games.

The only thing the saturn version has going on is additional content which is pretty meh, it has inferior graphics, music and longer load times

I was really impressed with it in 1997 when every other game had primitive 3d graphics and this game came out with the biggest, smoothest sprite work I had ever seen at the time.

Oh stop, don't force people to have a shitty experience because your mom got you the Sonic Box over the Mario Box and you were not going to get anything else

Like >>8110825 said. The PS version has wwaaaaayy better music scores, better graphics, smoother frame rate and the load times on a PS1 with a vastly superior loading time and reading drive

What do you mean by "better graphics"? Just the dithering thing? It looks great on CRT.
Can you provide source about PS1 version having better audio and loading times?
I think having m6ore content can beat out having to wait a few m6ore seconds though, it's not like the PS1 version is devoid of loading times anyway.

Yes, it's a really great game. The Jump Jump Slide Slide meme is not nearly as bad as they say. If you like it play Mega Man & Bass, it's possibly my favorite Mega Man game.

VCdecide did a side by side and had to make a PLEASE WAIT overlay to so the Saturn version can keep up with the quicker PS1 load time. Of course the autistic Saturn fags came out of nowhere to bomb the video and comments. To them, 2 small EXTRA boss battles is more important then game wide quality of life and music.

Growing up my best friend had a Saturn too. I let him borrow my copy of X4 in exchange for borrowing his copy of MM8 for Playstation. I didn't know those were the better versions at the time but hey that's what I got to experience. Other kids at school didn't own saturns but they were too fucking dumb to know how cheap good games for it went for at Funcoland. $20 saturn, $5 X4. One of the best purchases I made as a child. I got a $20 Dreamcast from those fuckers too.

Not him, but TCRF. The second point in this pic are relevant (the last sentence in the second is also bs since it's annoying and clashes with the music, I guess they ran out of time to make a new theme). Most pro-Saturn people don't mention this either because: 1) they played it on emulator and chalked the audio differences to imperfections, 2) they played the less expensive Japanese version and so the degraded voices are less obvious to gaijin, and/or they simply didn't play the PlayStation version back-to-back, or 3) they really can't get over refighting the same Robot Masters that they already did in the 80's. Take your pick.
>>8111032
I'll be fair, however, and say the load times are about even since the pausing is obviously due to the footage not being 100% synced up, unless there's a better direct comparison on it.

Yeah that always bothered me, but if true, this makes replacing the Tengu Man stage theme even stranger. They could've just composed a new theme for the Duo stage and left Tengu Man alone. I have the feeling Capcom had the alternate Tengu Man song lying around and just replaced it last minute because they thought it was more suitable for the shooting sections. Saturn Aqua Man is pretty much an objective improvement though, and I'd argue Wily Stage 2 as well due to the richer flute sample (even if it doesn't quite match the tempo), but yeah iirc other tracks like Boss, Grenade and and Search Man don't really sound right on Saturn.
Boss Character Postcard was an underrated part of the Saturn version that should've been preserved in the Legacy Collection , but yes overall fans overvalue the Saturn version a bit too much and act like it makes or breaks the game when that isn't true.

It depends on how it's done. As a pseudo transparency it's lame. As a way to increase effective color depth it's cool.

Saturn has dithering instead of transparencies, but it also has a cool heat wave effect in the crashed Sky Lagoon and Magma Dragoon stage, proper music looping, additional parts to the Eregion dragon and Frost Walrus themes and, according to Mega Man RTA Leaderboards, overall faster load times. I agree that it's the better version, but that's because Saturn was actually X4's lead platform. (Supposedly, 8 was also going to be Saturn exclusive, but I've found nothing on it - the closest I've found is a piece clearly talking about the game's western release in context, so 8 may have been confused for X4, and the fact that 8's prototypes were for PlayStation might've meant that Capcom initially planned for them to be respective console exclusives. Note also that X4 wasn't advertised in the Japanese PlayStation version of 8.)
