Howdy friendos, looking for advice on old-console-to-new-tv connectivity.

My HDTV doesn't have composite, component or scart ports, and i want to play my old games. Specifically, GameCube/Wii and PS2, all PAL consoles. I think i have a newish GameCube with digital output, not analog. What's the recommendation here? I dont mind spending up to 200 eurobucks for an all-in-one tool, i'd prefer that over having multiple units.
I've read that the retroTINK 2X doesn't handle 480i too well (meaning my Wii and possibly GameCube too), and im not sure what to look for. I dont have space for a CRT TV in my new place. Got some storage room but it's 4 stories down in my building so that's not ideal at all.

I have all the original cables and scart adapters, all i need now is to concert it to HDMI with as low latency as possible. Thanks in advance.

GBS-C does a pretty good job with 480i
Though another option is to always just get the cheapest shittiest chink converter and hope it passes through 480i to your TV and let your TVs built-in scaler handle it

>I have all the original cables and scart adapters.
Okay. What are you going to use for each console? Are you using composite at all?

Would this work with PS2 as well?

As for the cheap shit, im worried it would add too much latency. Picture quality isnt that important to me, but lag is unacceptable. This whole thing is mostly for playing Smash with the lads.

Whatever thing plugs in the back of the console. All of them end in male composite. Switching them out when changing console is the least effort id imagine.

I don't quite understand what you're saying. Are you using composite cables for each console?

retrotink 2x does PAL ok
it's labeled as "experimental" but i had no issues with my CDi from the netherlands
(do not give me shit for "hoarding junk", i wanted it for tetris and to see the fmv stuff faggots)

>>8105724
I think so, yes. I wouldnt know of any alternative desu. Both consoles have a single output port, and both my cables are composite.

>>8105728
Alright cool, thanks. That's part of what i read too, that the devs just havent really tested it. Others have had problemen with black frames tho, to which others have replied it was due to settings.

comb filter: "retro"
i used simple av output although its technically RGB modded but i dont have a way to plug in a scart cable in usa & im not keen on buying a $80 adapter for a system that gets played 1-2 times a year

i had no frame drops or sync issues and was using the shittiest consumer grade television ever over hdmi

however, a PAL genesis or saturn with ridiculous on screen action 60fps framerate might result in tearing - i havent tested it & am not "allowed" to go down the UK microcomputer rabbithole

gbs-c works fine with ps2 you need to solder unless you can find a prebuilt one somewhere

Well, like others pointed out, RetroTINK 2x would be the best device to hook up PS2, GCN, and Wii up to a modern TV, but I'll warn you now, it's gonna look shit. Even if you spend extra on getting component cables, it's still gonna look bad. 480i is just a complete bastard that plagues the 6th gen.
I know you say you don't have room for a CRT, but I'd recommend maybe looking at a 14 inch PVM. They're relatively small and those consoles will look so much better, even with composite cables. I don't know where you're based in Europe, but maybe look around on eBay or other sites, and you might find something suitable.

Hmmm alright, thanks for the conciseness. Im in the Netherlands so there ought to be a bunch of "free to pick up"-TV postings here and there.

I think i'll try it out and return it if it is indeed shite.

Also thanks to you other fine folks for the help.

RTFM or return the TV and spend that $200 to upgrade to a decent one

They keep a list of the serial numbers of stolen TVs. Return it, snitch on your cousin Tyrone who soled it to you, and you'll get the best TV you could imagine.

"no"

This. The 5X Pro is what you need for the PS2.

>> No.8107252

RetroTink 5x pro will make the PS2 look fantastic.

But if you just want a Gamecube to play melee, I would consider getting a HDMI solution for the Gamecube specifically.

really splitting hairs
there is literally no reason to upgrade from the 2x pro to the 5x pro

stop shilling

>> No.8107975

>>8107950
There is a significant reason to upgrade. First of all, it supports much higher resolutions than 480p. Second, the new deinterlacing method for 480i is a godsend. You may call it shilling but I just believe you are poor.

>> No.8108683

>>8107950
While the 2X-Pro still currently has a slightly better smoothing option, the 5X not only gets a ton of updates, it outputs all the way to 1440p. Plus it has support for every input you could ever want, gets tons of updates, supports line doubling as well as 720p passthru, and motion adaptive de-interlacing as the GBS shows is great for PS2 games.
There's a good amount of reasons to want to upgrade, BUT there's just no real need to upgrade so far if you're happy with what you got or if you just want to see how the OSSC Pro or PixelFX Morph pan out, and thats fine by me. That said I do hope a "lite" model comes out soon to replace the 2X Multiformat, one that keeps most of the features while cutting out SCART support for those that don't really care for it if it means a lower pricetag

>> No.8109098

>>8107950
ps2 is a quintessentially 480i console
rt2x just supports shit-tier bob-deinterlace.
getting a gbs would be a viable sidegrade if you don't want or need all the stuff the 5x offers.

i use a crt for 480 systems like ps2, gamecube, xbox, etc

i guess it depends on the title you want to upscale, i had zero issues with steel battalion and even captured footage for youtube

i do not recommend paying the scalper price for the 5x when the 2x is readily available

Just throw away all those shite consoles and get some older, better, more retro ones.
