>pic related sold millions of copies
>nobody here has ever heard of it
>Fallout 1 sold a few hundred thousand copies
>everyone claims to be an OG Fallout fan
I've been noticing this phenomenon a lot, especially with old PC games.
You would think Lucasarts was a serious competitor to Sierra based on internet discussions, but Day of the Tentacle sold less than 20,000 copies in 1993, while Gabriel Knight sold 350,000 copies, which was far below expectations.

Seems more like tastes have changed and Sierra games just haven't stood the test of time.

Well this is 4chan, a place for outcast to shitpost. I somehow had an US copy of Fallout 1 back in the day and I live in Finland.

Myst sold 200,000 or so copies it's first year. It sold more copies(860,000) in 1996 than it did it's launch year. Basing a game's sales for a single year as a judge of how many copies exist is retarded.

Gex sold way more than Banjo. Somehow no one is asking for Gex in Smash.

I think it's because people compare Sierra games in the 80s with Lucasarts games from the 90s, so they get the false impression that all Sierra games were full of bullshit. In reality, Sierra games in the 90s were generally fair and had smart puzzle design.

The RoA-Fallout comparison was over the course of a decade. DotT sold 80,000 copies by 2009, idk how many more copies GK sold, but it was re-released in 2001, so probably a lot.

The RoA-Fallout comparison was over the course of many years. DotT sold 80,000 copies by 2009, idk how many more copies GK sold, but it was re-released several times.

I don't know what to tell you bro. I'm og everything. I think there are only a few 35+ on here which is the only age range that can legit discuss anything pre 360/wii/ps3.

>chrono trigger flopped in the west
It sold half a million copies, which was pretty fucking good for a console RPG prior to FF7. FF6 sold about a quarter million in the west on SNES to compare.

I looked this up and it's actually the three games in the series that sold 2.4 million copies cumulatively, meaning 800k each on average. Also it's originally a German game while 4channel is an English-language website. Maybe it's more popular in the Germanophone world.

Everyone was playing it on ZSNES less than 5 years after its release, dude. Sales are really irrelevant.

I was playing it on zsnes during spring of '99.

Do those sales include compilations?
