Zoomer here, was this game always known for being the creepy scary "dark atmosphere" entry in the Zelda series, or was this because of by the creepypasta?

Because really it isn't that "dark", there are Mario games which are "darker".

>> No.8074823

Yeah, it was considered dark because of a shitty meme that came along 15 years later.

Ben Drowned was first posted on /x/ in 2010, which is still a fair amount of time, but not as long as fifteen years.

It was always known as kind of a weird game but yeah, I do think internet culture and fan art and stuff oversold how “dark” it is over the years.

Majora's mask is a thematically dark Zelda game, especially compared to everything that came before it. Anyone who cites that damn creepypasta in regards to how creepy this game's perception is are telling on themselves: That's why THEY think the game is creepy.

It was always seen as dark, and it is relative to other games at the time. Especially relative to nintendo games. There wasn't much else to compare it to, use your thinking skills OP

In recent years? Yeah probably the creepypasta and that cringe fan-made movie trailer thing. Personally Majora’s Mask was always a game I liked the idea of more than I actually enjoy playing.

>> No.8074901

The 2000s internet loved to play up the "creepyness" of certain games/cartoons because of the creepypasta/TVTropes boom.

What mario games would you call darker?

Super Paper Mario has a great story. I really wish I liked the gameplay more.

I never liked any of it and I never beat the final boss. I never thought that the story was particularly good anyway.

For 2000 this was pretty dark.

What does that even mean? Late 90s media was filled with edgy shit.

Not when it came to Nintendo games. Heck seeing blood in a Nintendo game when Turok came out was surprising.

How old were you in 2000?

>> No.8075018

>>8075002
It’s a common misconception because Turok is an N64 exclusive but Nintendo had nothing to do with publishing or developing it.

>> No.8075027

>>8075018
I meant on a nintendo system. Remember the blood was removed from MK on the super Nintendo just 4 years prior

Yeah but then MKII and III were fully uncensored.

>> No.8075042

Also the Resident Evil 2 port had come out on N64 by then. There was red blood in the original Ocarina release when you finish off Ganon as well.

No Turok was from early 1997 before RE2 was even on the playstation.

>> No.8075054

>>8075046
Oops, sorry that was confusing. I meant RE2 came out before Majora’s Mask. The N64 actually had quite a few bloody M rated games.

>> No.8075092

It's a pretty light game aimed at kids and makes Neverending Story look like Cannibal Holocaust

but omg le spooky moon face, HighOctaneNightmareFuel
