Fun fact. Just read about this a couple days ago.

Apparently, Spacewar! is one of the oldest video games ever made. It was developed in 1962 for the giant super computers of its day.

And guess what? It's actually available on Steam, for free! Valve is using as a testing tool for Steam's SDK, so it's already added to everyone's accounts.

Though, I've always wanted to make guides to vidyas that are straight to the point, minute long videos using simple English that someone starting a game can understand, making them able to complete that game with that small info they never knew. I really don't get how you couldn't enjoy a lot of those basic games from before the home console eras. Sure there are plenty with odd physics but so many of them just work in a proto-lizard brain way that appeals to your basic sense of satisfaction. Like tic-tac-toe, paper football, or catch, they just feel inherently engaging and fun.

That's retarded. I can spend two weeks immersed in an RPG but I can only spend 2 minutes playing pong at most. Pong for me is just a game I played on my GBA on car rides and it would get boring quick. I would rather play a full blown tennis game than pong.

It's historically interesting, but to say that it's odd to prefer real video games yeah I said it over pong is insane.

Mainly because there are so many QoL updates for NES RPGs on later consoles like the SNES (or their own sequels on NES) that would make you feel like the NES version is a slog. Item management and game speed, for example. With early video games like Pong or Space invaders all that its trying to be is at its base game. Its mechanically more similar to stuff like Skee-ball or Whack-a-mole , basic games that are enjoyable on a simple level without you needing more frills
