So, aside from Sonic CD and Snatcher... is there anything else worth playing for the Sega CD?

Eternal Champions: Challenge for the Dark Side has some absolutely gorgeous pixel gore.
The "Unworked designs" versions of Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue, and Popful Mail are great, especially Popful Mail.
Keio Fly Squadron.

It is. It's a step up from the Genesis version not only due to redbook audio but also because its version of Intestinal Distress isn't downright broken. The new Big Bruty level is kinda mediocre but it has tons of bonus lives and it's pretty easy to run through, making it great for new players.

Popful Mail, Shining Force CD.

Silpheed (probably my favorite Sega CD game), Lords of Thunder, and Keio Flying Squadron are good.
I remember playing Soul Star once and thinking it looked really cool, but I didn't play enough to actually know if it's actually good or just all graphics (which are, quite frankly, amazing).
is Robo Aleste any good? I fucking love Compile shooters, but I've never played it.

God, there's really not that much on Sega CD, I'm looking at a list of everything on the machine to see if I'm forgetting anything, and it doesn't seem like it.

It has the only version of Puggsy that can be easily played on Emulation, on top of extra bosses, but at the cost of a less diverse soundtrack - which can cause some tracks to play in unfitting areas, and in the case of the bosses, they all share one boss theme.

The Sega CD was wasted potential.

>> No.8075854

>>8075839
it really was imo. the fmv fad at the time really stunted whatever potential it actually had.
Which as we know is better graphics and a fuck load more of storage space.
theres also no good reason it didn't have a rondo of blood port

that sounds great even if it is just like 90s rock riffs and stuff.

>> No.8075872

>>8075870
No, I mean it actually has a sound chip in it that allows you to play samples, like the SNES. I'm not sure, but I think it also has something like Mode 7, which Sonic CD shows off.

>> No.8075889

>>8075872
ahh okay that makes sense then. also yeah sonic cd does have the mode 7 like graphics in sonic cd. which is a pretty good game. played through it once. i think its more in the latter half of the game.

Wonder what its peak coulda been as far as sprites and stuff like that

Keio Flying Squadron.
Chuck Rock if you like that type of platformer; it's the base game with 2x the levels and CD Audio.
Dune is ace but very slow paced, and controls very oddly without the mouse of the PC original.
Eternal Champions is okay but I liked the base game better.

Thanks for letting me know about these 'Un-worked' versions. I played the WD localisation of Dragon Force and it had a lot of weird cringe moments.

Just get an emulator that can disable SRAM to bypass the antipiracy. That's literally all it does, checks for SRAM.

>> No.8078396

>>8078353
On the contrary, I found Dragon Force to be quite easy, but the changes for things like Lunar sound like they are arbitrary and lend themselves to just a lot of grindy gameplay, or drawn out battles.
Do you think the changes were improvements over the original?
