SA > 3 = VC

SA has some shit parts, but that's kind of inevitable with the amount of content it has. Overall there's just much more to do and has a far more interesting setting and characters.

VC did have a bunch of improvements over 3, which is to be expected, but even though it technically has a larger map it just feels smaller and less varied which keeps it from being definitely better than 3. Frankly I think VC is overrated due to 80's shit and it's basically a retelling of Scarface (which I also think is a massively overrated movie).

I like how every game in the 3D universe has an entirely different atmosphere.
3 is a depressing, often rainy concrete jungle. Your character doesn't even have any allies and just murders everyone on the way to the top. It's the most nihilistic game I've ever played honestly, it makes sense why there was a moral panic around this game.

VC is bright, sunny and an idealized TV-show version of the 80s. Aesthetically it's extremely strong at what it's trying to push, it's like Scarface with a happy ending.

SA starts off as an incredible imitation of 90s hood movies and rap culture. It does admittedly move away from this when you leave the first city, and maybe this is the greatest flaw - I don't know anyone who thinks the latter half is a better game. Still, looking at sheer gameplay depth alone, it's unmatched.

Old GTAs have some kind of uncanny vibe. I don't even know how to explain that, it's in the details, like you visit a butcher's shop and see he's selling human organs or you can shoot moon through the optical scope and it will change size. It's like some creepy unnatural shit is going on in the daylight, while you doing normal stuff.

Vc was the peak of GTA as an arcade-y crime themed franchise. It has stuff I miss in the franchise like the rampages, the drugs that slowed down time etc. SA was more of a sprawling, semi-RPG game, still good but felt less like GTA. I love Vc's aesthetic but for me SA edges it by fixing a lot of the flaws from 3 that carried over into vice city. It's also the only one I finished as a kid as with 3 and vc there would always be at least one bullshit mission or buch of missions that I'd get stuck on and then bail.
