Only ever heard of this because the male half of X-Play had a hate-boner for it.

And, yeah, it looks pretty bad. This is 3D Ghosts and Goblins, by the way.

I also assumed this game was terrible based on what I'd heard, but when I actually sat down and played it I found it was pretty decent.
It doesn't mimic Ghosts N' Goblins perfectly, but it's good enough on its own.

It's ok. The weapons aren't very satisfying to use and the lock-on system is annoyingly snappy. I think it's obscure on account of only releasing in Japan, which is odd because it has optional, fully-completed English voice acting. Also it has cutscenes

The first few games were a genuine attempt to get a platforming mascot off the ground, and may have even succeeded for a short while. Bubsy 1 and 2 did actually have something of a fanbase, if I'm not completely mistaken.
At this point they are genuinely just exploiting the fact that everyone knows Bubsy as "one of the worst games ever" for a few quick sales though. Everything about the latest games were self aware of the fact it was a piece of shit, and people bough it because "lol, Bubsy".
