Say what you want about the series or Nintendo in general, but you can't deny the fact this is arguably one of the best and most influential games ever made.

>solid gameplay
>camaraderie between squad mates makes you feel like you're apart of the team
>best OST ever (you know those songs got you pumped to shoot some alien ass)
>simple story that sets up a plethora of prequels/sequels/spinoffs
>arguably the most quotable game of all time

On rails shooters aren't supposed to be THIS good...but Ninty definitely hit a home run with this one.

Never played it. As far as I’m concerned, they could have stopped with the original Starfox. That game was great.

>> No.8051236

I agree that Star Fox 64 is god tier, but the Star Fox SNES OST is better.

The game is great otherwise but imo its OST is totally forgetable, I cannot remember any music from it.
Meanwhile from the SNES one I still vividly remember several tracks, most of course the pumping Corneria one.

Star Fox 1 and 2 are some of the most important games ever. They helped Nintendo get into 3d. Sf64 is also an undervalued piece of the puzzle. It's somewhat of a missing link between Mario 64 and OoT. Why does no one ever talk about that Sf64 did lock on targeting before OoT anyway?

I played the multiplayer a lot. It was a lot of fun. I'm surprised no dogfighting games have ever become big. Like, FPS has tons of attention. A space fighter sort of like Star Fox 64 MP with different ships and loadouts could be a lot of fun.

>influential
What games were influenced by StarFox 64? Its genre basically did shortly after it came out and I can't think of a single game in another genre that owes anything to SF64. I liked the SNES and N64 StarFox games and all, but calling them influential seems to me like a huge exaggeration. Do you think being the source of the "do a barrel roll" meme counts as being influential?

>> No.8056407

>>8052071
>Why does no one ever talk about that Sf64 did lock on targeting before OoT anyway?
It's not like SF64 invented lock-on targeting, and implementing lock-on targeting in a rail shooter has to be both easier to do and less impactful on the play experience than implementing it in a 3D action game where both the player and the enemy can go wherever.

>> No.8057268

>>8057075
Selling well doesn't mean a game is influential. A game being influential means that games made after it borrowed ideas or concepts that the earlier game either pioneered or popularized. I'll grant you that there is some correlation between selling millions of copies and being influential, but by no means does one automatically imply the other.
