Worst Gradius ever.

>several unskippable cutscenes
>Sakimoto can't compose good shmup music
>gimmicky and overpowered control of multiples
>checkpoints should be forced but are off by default
>lacking in organic stages/enemies; too much emphasis on Cores
>last level is a rehash of the second stage for retarded story reasons
>have to unlock Edit Mode which Shield, Ripple, etc. are locked behind
>shite rank system compared to IV's absolutely perfect mechanics
>doubles the firing limit from previous Gradius titles
>1x1 Vic Viper hitbox panders to tranmaku fans
>overlong with atrocious pacing issues
>option hunter rarely shows up

Konami made a mistake letting those talentless hacks develop a Gradius game.

>Sakimoto can't compose good shmup music
Retarded opinion. Go compare Tetran/Carrier/Boss themes of V to those of previous titles. The OST is great and you're a fucking dumbass for thinking otherwise.
>overpowered option formations
Don't use them, homo.
>checkpoints should be forced, but are off by default
Game respects the player by default, you mean.
>lacking in organic stages/enemies, too much emphasis on Cores
Because the setting of V is that Gradius is directly under threat. It's not in Bacterian-controlled territory.
>have to unlock Edit Mode which Shield is locked behind
Game expects you to deserve them. Git gud.
>doubles the firing limit from previous Gradius titles
And doubles the enemies.
>1x1 Vic Viper hitbox
The game is not a danmaku, and a smaller hitbox works better for 3D models for obvious reasons.
>overlong with atrocious pacing issues
You can clear it in one hour.

Gradius V is a good game. Fuck off.

THIS SO MUCH
Notice anything funny about ALL YOUR FAVORITE DEVS FROM THE 90s????

Every single one is whoring out their legendary IPs to make a gatcha game.
Valkyrie Profile
Star Ocean
Shining Force
Tales of
Langrisser
etc.

It it was cool in the 90s and that gen liked it, and you want it, publishers only care about gatcha so force the devs to make them. However the public already has the gatcha they want, the money isn't in them anymore. You know Japanese corporate masters are renowned to being dinosaurs who can't see current events and are stuck on the last big thing, like how when fortnite was big they still though spinners were in.

For me these are Dynamite Heady and Alien Solider.
Honestly much of their late catalog seems to be quite underrated.
Guardian Heroes Advance was trashed by most critics despite it being one of the very few beat-em-ups which dared to revision old mechanics for the sake of creating a more dynamic progression flow.
The Astro Boy game is pretty much Alien Solider 2, but I've never heard of anyone who would describe it in such manner.
The most underrated of all is probably Sin & Punishment 2 which might also be their last truly unique title.
S&P2 seems to experiment with the concept of "shooting things on rails" more than any other game. Sometimes it transitions from a 3d sidescroller to a 2d shmup. Then it changes to bird-view perspective. There is a section in which you have mange the havoc behind you, that is followed by one where you to shoot platforms to balance them. Sometimes you need to turn around the enemies, other times they turn around you. Sometimes it's more about aim precision, and other times it's about dodging & movement accuracy.
Shame that almost no-one remembers it.

Real bangai O fans know both offer something different and aren't interchangeable
Dreamcast has different bomb system and removed the ranks, making it more friendly for newcomers, also has a couple extra bosses.
N64 is more robust when it comes to scoring, so it's better for seasoned players.
If you like bangai O, you wouldn't dislike either of them, or think that one can replace the other.

>> No.8040369

>>8040325
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the mechanics surrounding the super shot different? In the Dreamcast version, it's determined by the amount of attacks that are about to hit you which makes for a better risk vs reward system, also the Dreamcast can have more missiles on screen at once. Imo, many of the balancing changes make it pretty much superior than the 64 version. Also the game only ever came to the west on the Dreamcast anyway.

>> No.8040456

>>8040369
DC limits the max missiles to match the targets on screen though. N64 lets you spam up to 100 missiles at once for a total of 10 consecutive spams, so 1000 missiles, which is more than the max you can spam consecutively on DC (500). Both of them are nuts anyway, there is no inferior version.
The balancing on N64 is just fine, the level up system is super rewarding if you are good comboing. DC is more simple, that's why I say it's better for beginners, while original provides more meat for scoring and skill ceiling. The risk vs reward plays effect always in bangai o, the combo mechanic on N64 also requires it.

>> No.8040502

Why don't they make simple budget arcadey games and release them on every platform they can afford to? Indie development has gotten very cheap from what I'm seeing, and self-publishing in the digital era is even more braindead.

Older Japanese are boomers who don't know about the PC indie scene, in Japan to a lot of these people the low-budget indie scene is on phones.
I read that Untold History of JP Devs book and the interviewer suggested PC indie/rereleases to the Mitchell Corporation president and he said "I had no idea about any of that? But the budget phone scene has looked promising."
I think the Pang IP has gotten some rereleases/remakes on stream lately so I guess he finally figured out about it though.

I prefer the more retro graphics of the original, and Bnagai O's sprite is legit better on 64 (compare both the moment you unleash the missiles). Music is different in both versions, and both are good but some of my fav tracks are on 64. I'll give you the extra bosses and less slowdown.
>>better bomb system (proximity-based > hold button to charge, destroying stuff to refill the gauge > collecting fruits to refill it)
Yeah but DC limits your missiles, plus if you actually know how to play you know collecting fruit on 64 can be done quickly, as hordes of enemies leave them behind as you go. Fruits are kinda not important on DC which is weird.
>>better game balance leading to faster gameplay (no having to waste time on every level powering your mech up via the shop system, mech is already fully powered)
Same as with the fruit, if you know how to play leveling happens quickly.
DC is fine, just less complex and more beginner friendly.
Both versions are good and worth playing. Anyone going "muh inferiour, muh nintendo hateboner, muh treasure betrayed sega" is not to be taken seriously. Besides, why do you even pretend to be a sega fan? Back to your anti-saturn shitposting and your eurokanj speccy games.
