The first time I witnessed anger being directed at a computer game was watching my older brother play this on the Atari ST circa 1991

Yeah, I tried playing the GB version on my phone and the game seems to just break down if you don't have reliable controls, and the lack of tactile feedback from the screen fucked me over pretty hard.

That's just how things were, video game baddies were weird. The most iconic ones of all time were turtles.

Gosh, the game box arts in 80's and 90's were ranging from cringey to absolutely amazing. They could literally sell you the game. I didn't really find OP game interesting but man, this cover art could sell it to me back then.
Nowadays it's just all renders of a protagonist placed on a cover or some shit.

I honestly don't know if it counts as one since you can't kill anything.

It doesn't stop there.
You see that parrot and that fireball? They were mummies just minutes ago.

action just means it's heavily focused on testing the player's dexterity and decision-making as they handle situations that develop and must be resolved quickly. Killing isn't a requirement at all, despite it being a very common element in the genre.

Looking at that one astronaut, all I can see is Steve McQueen thinking "What in the hell am I doing here?"
