I believe Cloud will play it automatically in the flashback, and it gives a text box saying "Do Re Mi Ti La Do Re Mi So Fa Do Re Do" which translates to the correct notes (which are part of the World Map theme). Still, it's a far way back in the game, so unless you wrote it down or tried to play the theme yourself, it seems hard to get on your own.

>IT RUINS THE FEEL!
Didn't seem to matter for the millions who love this game and laud it as a classic. Stop searching for something to whine about, you don't look smart for criticizing popular things. The point of the world is that different ideologies and ways of life are clashing, which is why you have traditional locations mixed with the futuristic stuff, which is part of the game and literally told to you in Midgar, Cosmo Canyon, Nibleheim, Wutai, etc... Look at OP's image, you can see due to the reactor being built nearby that ontop of the more traditional architecture they have those pipes wrapped around them which can add to the feeling that the world is being trapped into the current system being thrust open them. Alot of work and thought actually went into these games unlike most of the modern shit we have now, try to take a closer look before criticizing it.

That's kind of what happened in the real world, too. Hell, even TODAY it's not hard to travel between cutting edge cities and towns that look at least 20 years behind, if not more. FFVII's world makes it even more dramatic because it's a corporatocracy where a monopolistic private company is the de facto government. The people who live in the quaint villages are targets of exploitation while also not being wealthy enough to benefit from the productivity they're helping facilitate. That was Barret's entire backstory. Like being a waiter at a restaurant you can't afford to eat at but on a global scale.

It's interesting how the remake made the overall atmosphere of these places happier. The people are poor but don't seem especially downtrodden compared to the original where it really was a depressing shithole. >but he would have died had he not been saved by Hojo
That's the point, Cloud didn't have enough will at the time to become a SOLDIER, but overtime he developed a backbone. All of the ShinRa grunts have potential to be in SOLDIER, it's just not everyone wants to apply/has an iron will. When Cloud had to be strong, he showed he was a great candidate, he just needed to be pushed just a bit more. Seeing Tifa and Zack injured was what he needed. One may wonder how he'd fared if didn't lose consciousness shortly afterwards, maybe a Chad Cloud?

>> No.8043040

>>8042882
Its probably because of the population density. The original game has like 12 NPCs and most of them just sit there and mope. The remake slums are bustling and most people are friendly. It puts a weirdly cozy spin on what looks like a scavenger society. Its like a giant pillow fort except in a scrap yard. Like you walk out of the front door of your giant pipe house and right next door is a coffee shop in an old bus and a restaurant that is just a hole in the wall with a kitchen and a few seats.

>> No.8043090

>>8042985
Cloud wasn't strong enough. It was the boost he got from the experiments that gave him the power he had dreamed of, which then led to him being a better SOLDIER than SOLDIER.

>> No.8043154

>>8043090
Not really though. The point is that Cloud being a "failure" meant nothing because ultimately Hojo was a clueless quack who barely understood Gast's work and was more interested in making Aeris fuck a dog than doing actual science. SOLDIER really wasn't all that awesome. Cloud, a random grunt, threw Sephiroth off a bridge and Zack was gunned down. Jenova wasn't an Ancient. It was an alien that the Ancients fought against and sealed away. Sephiroth wasn't really that cool and composed. He went completely apeshit when his own worldview shattered.

Cloud's personal arc is his working through his crippling self-esteem issues and realizing those doubts were based on mythology and propaganda.

You just made me realize that the way they explain materia being made is oddly similar to fossil fuels... But I would still guess part of the point is using up too much or acting carelessly for your own self-interest without any plan for the future or even yourselves and bringing about an inevitable collapse / destruction, which ties in to Sephiroth and Jenova as well. The main theme of the game wasn't just Shinra and Mako, it becomes about Sephiroth, then there are also the themes of Cloud and everyone else.

I feel like something got lost during development because FFVII is like two different stories forced together. The environmentalist message is suitably direct. "Fuck with the planet too much and it will fuck you right back." The consequence is stylized as giant rampaging monsters instead of climate change but it's easy to make the connection. But then Jenova is just a random alien. It's like in the middle of the environmentalist story suddenly The Thing shows up and drives the second storyline. The two do intersect in that Sephiroth's ultimate plan is to do critical damage to the planet and absorb the planet's released energy to become a god but it's largely ancillary to Shinra's primary role in the fossil fuel industry. It seems more the second message is "don't create super soldiers."

Her ultimate weapon, Conformer is pretty easy to get (it's in a chest in the sunken gelnika).
There are two great things about this weapon. The first is that it deals full damage when using Morph. The second, and much more significant, is that the damage increases with the enemy's level. This means she does more damage to high level enemies. It's typical for her to deal 9999 to late game bosses with it. 4x Cut Yuffie with Conformer is a fucking beast.

>Isn't anything is a great album too
isnt anything is incredible imo
like, theyre all really pretty pop songs that couldve stood on their own imo, even as some dumb acoustic song. but then they get filtered through whatever tf those guys were on at the time, and its just wholly unique
they get called shoegaze, alongside lush and slowdive and whatnot, but when you compare the base songwriting side to side, its clear kevin from MBV was on an entirely different level
they were still restricted in total number of tracks available to use, so they filled out every track they could with more vocals/ambience/feedback etc, to great effect

loveless on the other hand is what would happen if you took that same ethos, but removed all the limitations.
you want 30 tracks of vocal dubs all played simultaneously yes, he literally did that. thats why the lyrics are unintelligible?
you got it.
how about 100 guitar tracks?
done
you wanna then keep adding more and more layers to it, to the point where you literally crash your computer and end up de-syncing the entire album with itself, then have to manually go back in and line everything back up (or straight up re-record it) as best as you can, wasting millions of dollars of your record companies money yes, this also literally happened in the process, basically killing your own band as a side-effect?
done

i know WHY people like the album, but im of the "limitations breed creativity" camp. without some sort of limitations, artistic self-indulgence can dig itself a pretty deep hole. and i feel that loveless, more than any other album of its era, is a perfect personification of that hole

>Didn't realise the nips loved them so much

I might have not payed enough attention and I certainly didn't explore a whole lot (although I did try to speak to every NPC I saw and I don't think I rushed through the game), but I couldn't get many things in the plot. And I don't mean I didn't "understand" them, but rather I literally did not read anything in the game that led me to the conclusions that everyone seems to reach.
As I found out later, there's many missables in this game. Are plot points some of them? Because it certainly seems so. Never did I see any hint, for example, about Zach being Aerith's love interest, or why the fuck Niebelheim is back the way it was and no one recognizes Cloud.
Is this info hidden in some random NPCs dialogue?

I feel the writers for this left loose ends and plotholes they even didn't know what to do with and sold it as mysterious and cryptic to mask it up. Reminds me of the original Evangelion in that sense.

The ending wasn't all that open. It's fairly evident without much thought as to overall what happened, with the details only requiring a little bit of thinking back. What the ending was was sudden. It felt more like a result of deadline pressure than a result of artistic choice. There are better done open endings that invite thought and consideration as to what happened considering the events and themes. I don't feel invited to think about FF7s ending or what that might mean, I instead feel invited to fill in the blanks and project the ending I want onto the ending that happened. Overall, I loved the game. And while I don't think the ending holds up to the writing standard the rest of the game sets for itself, it is at very, very worst entirely serviceable. I think the fact that Aerith's death is so discussed as to be omnipresently spoiled while I had the pleasure of being entirely suprised by the ending reflects that fact. Because I'm not a child, I can appreciate an ending that I wasn't wanting for what it is. Though I can't say I would have had that maturity at the age where you all played it. I'd have expected it to be a bit marmite for the same reasons Eva's ending was divisive. Was that not the case? How did you all feel about it when you first went through back then?

>> No.8068339

>>8068101
yeah it's a serviceable ending but I think you're right. It's less that there are parts left open to interpretation but more that it's unsatisfying in what does get presented for you.

Zoomers will understand even less than you think, because they grew up in the Pokemon era where most kids were exposed to the concept of a turn-based battle system. Before 1989 there were no popular RPGs for kids and until the mid-90s with Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger it was still very slim pickings. RPGs weren't just a nerdy activity, they were completely off the radar for normal kids.

To zoom out more, it's anti-Western. Shinra (America) wins a war against Wutai (Japan) and effectively relegates the Wutai empire to a tourist destination. Shinra uses nuclear power, which is analogous to nuclear weapons, but the obviously the framing is tailored for a more modern environmentalist theme.

The Wutai war was supposed to be a large part of the original game, but it was cut. In subsequent FF7 media, the Shinra-Wutai conflict is probably the biggest plot point, second to the core Sephiroth story.

We were supposed to give half a shit about Wutai? I know they made a bigger deal about that in future games, but FF7 was much more about Shinra subjugating its own people and raping the earth than it was about any political conflict. Wutai was just there to justify the fact that they have a giant military presence, as if saying "Oh, yeah, by the way, they were at war with these people, that's why they built all these weapons and have a runaway military industrial complex."

The remake works too hard to make Shinra seem like this authoritarian regime, which is stupid because the planet is practically empty and the slum-dwellers could pick up and move at any time.

>> No.8077154

>>8077126
Yeah, I'm sure that's why it was cut down to being side content in the original game.

Wutai-Shinra likely hits harder if you're Japanese, which is why for all the secondary content (including the new remake DLC) they keep coming back to Wutai stuff. And probably they're also more excited to see ninja and samurai in FF7 than we are.

SInce this thread is near the end i might share some secrets.

Take it with a grain of salt, i worked on the script of the FF7 world. Not the story but the backbones. My english is not perfect so please don't be so harsh.

We all now the basic surrounding the world of FF7, eco-enviroumantalist group vs. fascist capitalist.
Take note on those things, all towns outside of midgar are small gated communities, there are no big cities. The only town that is rich and advanced is Juon, the mil complex.

Where does the milk come from?
In the world of FF7 there are no cows, and chocobos don't give milk.
All gated communites share something and only nibelheim failed to deliver. why?

The reason why avalanche was so strong is within tifa.
Cloud killed aeris.
