Okay /vr/, we normally have "which Belmont is best Belmont" threads, and I'm kinda worn on them.

So instead, which Death is best Death?

pic related, best Death.

>> No.803124

Rondo had best Belmont and best Death
Death teases you as you race to the town at the start.
Later he fights you on the mast of goddamn ship wreck. He floats around in classic mode then shifts to fucking Ninja Death. "Face me, BOY!"

Not doing this with guides, and never played through the game before. Does holy water do well against bosses, or at least Death?

>>803207
I guess I'm pretty casual, then. The knights take so long to kill, and it's hard to dodge the axes and the medusa heads at the same time. Plus each hit drains a quarter of your life.
I've never died in the hallway, but I almost always get hit at least once, which makes Death that much harder to face.

kay take your ADD meds and then you will notice there are a few spots where the medusa heads dont hit you and you can just crouch and focus on axes and the night comes within range. You can always walk up and down the stairs a bunch too to get tons of hearts bro.

I'm with you OP, CV4 is still my favorite Death. Amazing fading glowy effects all on him, and I get so fucking pumped when the start of the fight shows all the images of Death coming together with that chilling moaning sound. I love how there are extra graphical effects (red aura of some kind) when a scythe hits you that doesn't appear anywhere else in the game. It makes the fight that much more special.

Really easy fight and hallway leading to him, but that music, that death wind suction move... This Death has style, and that counts for a lot with me.

I think Death is really one of the best bosses in video games. On the one hand, it's kind of weird that the embodiment of human mortality is Dracula's bitch. But on the other, his mere presence allows the player to connect to the protagonist because Death is a common foe.

Or maybe it's just because I'm scared as shit of dying.

After beating it once, the first game is just super easy.

Dracula is beyond death. He is above Death's control, so Death has become his ally. Dracula is probably the only "mortal" that death respects, that's why he's Dracula's 2nd in command.

Going full weeaboo here, but he does refer to Alucard as "Alucard-sama" in the Japanese version of SotN, so Death likely respects him in at least some regard, if only because he's Dracula's son.

Castlevania is a parody of the classic movie horror genre. The subsequent games ruin the concept and that's why the original is still the superior game.

>> No.807713

>>807693

Considering that Dracula uses Soul Steal on Death (consensually, but still) in Portrait of Ruin, no, I don't think sucking blood is how vampires get their power.

Then again, maybe that's just a vampire as powerful as Dracula. One of Alucard's spells in SoTN allowed him to regain health whenever he killed an enemy that sprayed blood on dying.

Frankly, no, it really doesn't. If we were talking about a game that hadn't already decided to go Zelda Timeline with its own mythos, you might have a point for consistency being a priority. Instead, Konami made the active decision to let function follow form in their games, and frankly I think that's why CV has both survived as long as it has and avoided becoming stale and formulaic.

A parody is cool, but it doesn't get you through dozens of games in the series. The franchise developed its own lore and style, like it or not. I don't like the character designs in later games either, but SOTN still had it right.

my point is about how it should be handled in a more elegant way

take for instance the original castlevania that even though is much more focused than the subsequent games, it's still plagued by dumb crap:
skeletons, animated armor, bats, crows... those are all classic elements of haunted castles stories. flying medusa heads arent. why are there a shit ton of medusas flying around? even if you say it's from a random gorgon, there are only 3 of those. Castlevania lacks a generic ghost enemy(the little flaming flying skeleton thingy doesnt count). so switch the medusa head sprite with a simple ghost and it feels so much better already.
Same deal for the fleaman. Resprite it as a goblin.
And i could go on but i think i got my point across. It's hard to articulate my thoughts better when english is not my first language.
