GameCube turns 20 next month! What are some of the GameCube games you've enjoyed over the years?

When I owned one, I mostly played Super Monkey Ball and Super Mario Sunshine. There are about 144 games on my GameCube list and on my PC.

The N64 is worse. Might be the most overrated console ever (and I say this as someone who had one during that gen over the competition). One of the smallest libraries ever for a major console, not much variety in terms of genres (mostly just FPSes, wrestling games, 3D platformers/collectathons, racing games, and party games. Virtually no JRPGs, fighting games, shmups, beat-em-ups, 2D platformers, etc), shit controller, shit texture quality, blurry filter smudges the fuck out of the entire screen, shit audio quality, etc. The only objectively good innovation of the N64 was that it normalized 4-player multiplayer without needing a multitap

>> No.8001654

Couch multiplayer was the big benefit of N64. PS had way more adult/rpg games but as a 7 year old child I much preferred the N64.

Most of it's first party titles we're gems.

You tards arguing which 20 year old system has 5% better graphics seems pretty stupid.

They definitely we're a huge jump up from the previous generation which was the first 3D generation. The PS2 definitely had a better collection of games, but had dick-all good when it came to couch co-op, especially for above 2 players.

Gamecube first party titles hit different if you had friends to play them with.

Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Mario Kart
Mario Party
Smash Bros.
Dr Mario
Yoshi's Story (Spin off of the Mario series)

You can also add the analogue stick (popularised by Nintendo) and also rumble (trademarked by Nintendo) to that objective list. Even Sony had to cave in and pay royalties to Nintendo do that they could include rumble in the DS3.

Gamecube always felt like the fourth and worst option in a solid generation. Games were all rushed, disappointing, often felt like rehashed or at odds with Nintendo's own image. The console on its own never felt like it came in to its own. Third parties were hands off because sales were always worse because they weren't Nintendo games, the strong elements of the platform don't stand out too much compared to the special sauce in the competition.

No, dumbass. What determines read time is not that. The GCN's spin rate was far greater than DVD drives of the time, meaning the outer layer of the disc is still overall spinning several times faster than an xbox or PS2 disc. Also, the PS2 does not feature the loading trick that you're talking about, the PS2 reads the inner track of the DVD at the same speed as it reads the outer track.

Also, the smaller disc means less seak time. The laser assembly has to physically move to where the data is, and that includes finding it. The GCN disc typically spends less time moving and more time reading.

>> No.8008161

>>8006673
Aside from the fast loading discs the GCN used, which were 3-5 times faster than other sixth gen systems, the GCN could also preload stuff onto its audio RAM. This would mean that when it comes time to load a new level or whatever, you can transfer data from audio RAM to system RAM, which is even faster when it comes time to load. Obviously this can only be done in some circumstances but it was commonly used

mostly played Sonic Adventure 1/2 on my GC way back when
had a few random sports games that I played a bunch of and would probably never fire up today
didn't have a lot of the big name games like Melee (which, to be fair, I mostly played over at my friend's place, so I didn't actually need a copy of my own), Wind Waker (I wasn't big on Zelda in general), or Mario Sunshine (which I played at a friends house once and wasn't fond of at all)
played a bunch of Metroid Prime at a friend's house too
also, I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing Sonic Mega Collection -- was really mad that my mom had apparently gotten rid of our Genesis at some point, and I wanted to play Sonic 3 again, so I bought it (didn't know shit about just being able to download ROMs and emulate until like 2004)

kinda ended up mostly wanting an Xbox because it had Halo (which everyone was going on and on about, didn't help that I had played some co-op at some cousin's house once and had a great time), multiplats that I wanted to play that looked and ran better than on PS2 (which I eventually bought in 2004 because I found a cheap used one)

Mario Strikers.
The most underrated game of the system

Pikim is cool.
Wind Waker is fucking boring as shit. TP is even more boring to the point I never beat it cause of how much of a slog it was.
Melee is meh.
Sunshine is ok.
Luigi's Mansion is extremely based.
Pokemon no one cares.
Sonic lmao
Simpson's hit and run is also extremely based.
Kirby Air Riders was more enjoyable than the pokemon games.

The last 'new' as in I had never played it before gamecube game I played was Pikmin two years or so ago. I was actually pretty surprised by how much I ended up enjoying it considering RTSes aren't really my thing. Though really it's more of a puzzle game then anything.

The 3 games I remember the most are Rogue Squadron, Mario Sunshine, and Spider-man 2.

Had so much fun on those 3 with my brother and our friends. Especially watching our one friend rage endlessly playing sunshine.

never understood calling any smash except 64 kiddie shit. especially melee, which is easily the most technical 2d fighter ever made
melee's directional influence alone puts it ahead of 90% of other fighting games

Was a smash melee tourneyfag. Other than that, the console pretty much sucked major ass, the PS2's library was superior in every way possible.
Metroid Prime was a good time too I guess.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was honestly really great. Same team that later did Mario Galaxy. Fun platforming and no pointless banana plot, just DK fighting to be the biggest baddest ape in the jungle. Shame the control scheme means it'll never be authentically ported in the future.

God I hate zoomers. We should be preserving the real history of gaming, like Atari and C64, not appeasing PS2 and Gamecube kiddies. I was literally in college when that shit came out. Can't imagine having nostalgia for that era. At least the PS1 had Tony Hawk.

I tried but honestly... I was a bit dissapointed. Am I missing something? The combat is extremely simple (you don't even have to aim) and the game is too easy. The multiple robots and the setting is great, though.

It was mostly a Sonic Machine for me, given I was a rabid Sonic fanboy but never owned a Sega Genesis, and they ported the entire library of games that were worth playing whilst still making new games, I don't care what popular opinion is, there's not a single miss on the gamecube for Sonic. I didn't start thinking "oh no this is bad" until the following generation. And I was also a chao autist. Made a friend because he saw me doodling chao in my note book. he later confessed he was gonna steal the copy of melee I had in my backpack that I was borrowing from a friend until he saw my doodles.

Other than that, mostly first party stuff. Wind Waker, Melee, and Animal Crossing probably ate the majority of my time, a good chunk of that was because Animal Crossing had NES games I never played before. But Skies of Arcadia and Viewtiful Joe were my most played third parties that weren't Sonic.
