None of this, literally not a single piece of tech, is why Melee is the best. It wouldn't even have developed a quarter of this tech if it weren't fun as fuck to play with its incredibly satisfying momentum and chasing/evading-after-hit mechanics, both of which were functioning exactly as intended, aren't player developed techniques and were both ruined horribly in future games.

That's not really the point though. It's that this pervasive idea of Melee as an autist-only game is saddle before the horse bullshittery. It was a beloved casual game first and foremost and then its depth was explored because of this. The idea that it was somehow bad for casual play was straight up revisionist history from Sakurai because he thought you shouldn't be able to be good at it and held a crackpot false dichotomy that one meant the other couldn't enjoy it. The game's entire success is casual players loving it, he's just a fucking retard.
