To be honest, most are REALLY rough and don't really feel like they belong into the game or at least not in that generation (like the Vodoo doll and Jiangshi ones or Borigon :DDD) and more like silly shit you end up with after the first brainstorming session where everything goes.
Probably the ones that totally should've been kept are Remoraid and Octillery's early designs since they make so much more sense than what we ended up with.

I actually think they had decent quality 'mons for the first three Gens. I didn't care for RSE one bit, but the monster design still had it going on. It's truly unfortunate that the first debut of 3D mainline Pokemon games also marked an intractable and irreversible slide in Creatures, Inc.'s monster output.

There are worse designs, but not that many worse. Magmar would be below average even in gen 7/8, let alone gen 1/2/3. Also the only monster where both the baby evolution and the later-gen evolution are actually improvements.

Electabuzz is a similar shape overall, but at least his skin/fur is a fairly consistent pattern over the entire body, and has a generally recognizable animal-man design (some kind of chubby cat man). Magmar is a fucking mess. Duck bill, his eyebrow is like a pair of flaming tits, his belly looks pregnant, his arms are coated with pinata fuzz, his back has spikes, his ankles have what look like leather bondage straps, and the fire tail is redundant considering the Charmander line. There is not a single thing appealing about that design.
