This is the hardest game of all time. Nothing comes close to the sheer brutality and merciless bullshit this game chucks at you. Fuck you Meijin

Yep, pretty much this. Don’t know why battletoads and ninja gaiden get the spotlight when this game is way harder than either of them.

Is this game possible for a normal human to complete without the hudson bee? It took me like 4 weekends to beat it. The AD dude from gamecenter CX played like 30 hours straight until he completed it.

Like lots of other NES games, it’s sheer memorization and timing. Skill has almost nothing to do with it.

No more than memorizing a song or speech. Point I’m making is that someone with lightning reflexes and hand-eye coordination will still get rocked their first time playing it.

Yeah if you memorize everything you have to do then perfectly execute it with flawless timing the game's incredibly easy

Playing this rn.
I actually admire how the game mixes the same 5-6 obstacles in each level, always coming with a new combination. Difficulty kicks ass, my best run so far is 5-2.
But at this point, it's not even enraging. I just genuinely laugh at how devs troll me each time.

This is Hudson's Super Mario Bros, except it filters every mariobaby.

The game is "easy" up to world 7. That's the real game right there

I played through this game on a saturday, took me 10 hours. Of course I used the Hudson Bee and took breaks to eat and shit, but it was fun.
It is hard, but the continue makes it manegable.

It might seem stupid to say, but the game is way easier if you are able to die less. Having the red hammers and skateboard for every level makes the game more fair. When you have to start ocean stages without hammers you might as well reset

I think Hudson did Sega a favor by making this conversion of original Wonder Boy. They've turned a pretty mediocre platform game into something good.

Also Takahashi Meijin is a cool guy and sings like an angel.

Took me about 5 hours or so to beat, it was brutal and in a lot of levels you really gotta discover the hidden eggs
Moist of that time was spent on the last few levels, What was it, 8-3? Or 8-4? You can get a fireball powerup, but as far as I'm aware it's a trap, you have to jump through extremely tight falling platform and kill a bat or two or else they're in your way while jumping. It's impossible to do with the fireballs

True, the arcade version is best. I thought rotten eggs being unmarked in AI was a dirty trick. There might be some other inportant differences I'm not good enough to know about, but overall arcade seems the way to go.

>> No.7988526

The PC-Engine version is such an improvement its not even funny. Its somewhat less difficulty, sure, but it goes from "I want to kill myself after a few levels" to "holy shit I can beat this just one more try" which is that sweet spot.

> I thought rotten eggs being unmarked in AI was a dirty trick

Eh, I think it actually adds to the challenge. If you see a spotted egg, you'll know there's an eggplant inside and you wouldn't touch it anyway, so what's the point of having these eggs in the game?

Considering the other differences:
Walers (jumping fish) are much smaller and less annoying in WB. In AI1 they are like half of the screen.
Cobras are simple enemies in WB, iirc they don't even shoot fire at you.
In AI1 there's actually a trick to them. They will shoot fire, but only if you'll throw your hammers to the nearest rock. If you'll keep shooting the rock, cobras will fire at you continiously.

Also in arcade WB you need to collect every doll in the game for accessing the final area (which doesn't affect ending, you just have to play extra level). In AI1, dolls are replaced with bonus pots and are optional to playthrough (i think)

tl;dr both games have their ups and downs but I personally prefer Adventure Island.

It took Urakawa that long because he stayed up the entire fuckin night prior to the shoot playing the game, then he had to stay up all day supporting Arino for the shoot. So by the time they asked him to clear the game he was already up for 2 days which is pretty fucked. The 30hours or so afterwards it took him to clear the game included him passing out from sleep deprivation in his chair. So if he was in peak form maybe it would have take 10-15 hours?
What is also fucked up is they didn't pass him the controller from where Arino left off. They made him clear the game from stage 1.

I know i'll be called a zoomer gayfag or something for this but I look forward to Inugami Korone playing this game. I've got respect for her after she did beat Atlantis no Nazo and Spelunker playing each for 11 hours straight. I think she can take on Adventure Island too. And she probably wouldn't know about a bee item and will try over and over from the beginning.

Not saying it's easy, because it's not. But to me, any game with unlimited continues is more beatable than limited continues. some of the later levels might have taken me close to 100 tries, but eventually you get through it and you never have to do it again.

Aiming for the game's completion, currently on the world 7-4. Goddammit fuck these frogs and spiders.

I think I also triggered a glitch in world 7-1. Died in the middle of 3rd checkpoint, somehow skipped to the middle of 4th and finished the level.
I'm not sure if this a bug or feature at this point, considering that in one level, you are required to touch an enemy to get bonus pot.

>> No.7990331

The game becomes kaizo hard in the last few levels. It feels like the developers ran out of ideas.

Sad fact: when that mobile game re-released later (in the early 2010's I think), they replaced that design with the 2009 one.

Best Tina is unironically 2016/2019 for one very simple reason: she birthed eight children and doesn't look like she aged a day. That's gotta be some incredible heavenly genes her husband lucked into. You try finding a magic woman with that superpower. Pro Tip: you can't.
