It wasn't that bad

It's a fine enough Zelda clone, but it's not a good Starfox game.

It really wasn't that bad. Unfortunately it suffered the same fate as BK nuts and bolts. The player went into the game expecting a completely different genre because of the previous entries

If it was Called Dinosaur Planet, people would have loved it.

>> No.7978259

Think they missed an opportunity by not gradually allowing the character to acquire and use more sci-fi gear instead of just relying on the staff.
Not saying ditch the staff, but it would've been cool say if you got his blaster after a few temples so that way you wouldn't have to swat away enemies when retreading ground every time. Could even try to implement some planet side flight missions though admittedly haven't given that much thought myself
Tricky was fairly useless and quite annoying

Right on the money.

Yeah, the game was meet with praise.
It's only when people became aware of the dinosaur planet thing that the hate for this game started being forced.

Not that good either. Just play a 3D Zelda. The only reason you'd play SF:A instead is because you're a furry

Sure it's not that bad but its also not what a lot of people paid money for.

There isn't a good Starfox game besides this one, though. At that point it's time to just make Zelda clones.

On its own, sure, but people also wanted a sequel that built on SF64, which really never ended up happening.

I hated it at the time. Thankfully I only borrowed it instead of buying it. That game had no business being called Starfox. SF64 is the GOAT rail shooter and one of my all time favorite games. This game is just an even gayer clone of Zelda.

Star Fox Assault was fun and I think it could be a pretty big hit for Nintendo if they did a similar game with online multiplayer for the switch.

No, but it was certainly something they could've built off of if in a way that both felt like a natural evolution to Star Fox but also kept it from being stale.
At the very least from a business perspective it seems like a Star Fox Battlefront would sell pretty well for Nintendo, though they have Splatoon as their shooter and SF hasn't done anything of note in years

>SF hasn't done anything of note in years
Several things relating to star fox happened in the following years since zero/guard. Nintendo also seemed very unsatisfied with how Assault and games in the 2000s in general turned out both financially and critically. Am qm incredibly skeptical that we will get another game like Assault again

I agree. Adventures is a so-so game in my experience but nothing besides q few minor things I consider objectively bad. I do think pound for pound it is a better game than Assault, another GameCube title of the same series that also is a black sheep in its own regard.

Nintendo mismanagement of Star Fox is one of their greatest failures.
Both SNES and 64 sold like 4 million copies each. More than any Metroid game ever.
I really don't understand why Nintendo is so opposed to just doing a traditional railshooter ala Star Fox 64.
The series was doing well until Nintendo proceeded to continuously fuck it for over 20 years.

>> No.7980698

>>7980681
Nintendo shelves any IP that dosen't do 5mil.

>> No.7980701

>>7980681
The short answer to why this may have happened is that Nintendo themselves didn't have any real ideas on how to progress forward with the series since 64 until star fox zero so they mostly just outsourced the development to other companies hoping whatever they made will become the next big hit

>> No.7980703

>>7980701
This is blatantly untrue. Like what this guy mentioned about metroid >>7980681
Despite star fox having titles that easily outsold any metoid titles metroid as a series has had a much more consistent history of games selling over a million copies. As of today only 4 star fox titles have ever sold more than 1 million, being star fox, star fox 64, star fox adventures, and star fox 64 3D. If you include videogame bundles star fox 2 also sold over a million and in fact would be the best selling game in the series initial launch wise.

I've given the Star Fox series more chances than years you've been alive, my fine underaged friend. It's not good. If you like slideshows just play a fucking Sega CD movie-game. If you like 3D Shmups, pick any other set of games to have a way better time with it, like Sin and Punishment.
