Did anyone here ever play much of this game? Better yet, did you beat it? I just started it recently, and the controls take some getting used to, but I've been enjoying the gameplay and general aesthetic.

I like it, it's one of the few 6th gen games I still play. I've beaten it on normal and unlocked the blackbird suit. I'm slowly working my way through the trial missions to unlock the papillon suit. I'm only on mission 3 so far though.

I should get this. I have Nintendont now.

The button mashing in this game is ridiculous, it makes Dynasty Warriors seem reasonable in comparison. I'm not giving myself RSI over some half-baked mediocre character action game.

i remember thinking this game looked cool when i saw it on Electric Playground, was disappointed to find out it was a gamecube exclusive. bought Breakdown instead and was not disappointed

I really like it, it's a unique game with strong arcade gameplay influences.
I think the main reason many people don't like it, besides console warring reasons, is that the game looks like it's a standard 3rd person action game, people expect something in the vein of devil may cry I guess, but PN03 actually plays a lot like arcade shooters, it has elements of Cabal and even Space Invaders. You can move around in a 3D space, but you need to stop to shoot and dodge, many people were put off by the fact you can't shoot and move around like on a regular 3D action game.

Look up some of the development history, this game was supposed to be a generic third person shooter but got completely remade barely a month before release.
Shitty game too it only gained traction recently because of a webm posted on /v/

It looks really cool but plays like ass, I really wanted to like it. It's like Bayonetta but bad.

US difficulty increases via more points needed to unlock suits to discourage rentals.

Nah. You unlock the red suit with powerful shots very early so you don't have to mash.

It's a weird demo where the game ends with you still waiting for the gameplay to go through some iteration or change that never happens.

Even its name makes it sound like it was some idea that developed into an unfinished game.

Played the shit out of it. Tried so hard to unlock the blackbird but never got it. I was sure I did it right once and it didn't unlock for me. Never played it again after that.

Did Kamiya make this? I've always thought he was a bit of an over-rated hack and that most of his games are secretly pretty shallow.

No, it's a Mikami game

Don't all the textures and levels and hallways all look the exact same? I heard this has boring game design. And the whole gimmick of dancing around during combat gets old fast.

Is there any other game out there with similar mechanics?
I.e. a 3D shooter without possibility to fire and move at the same time but with auto-aim, making the core game mechanic about timed dodging rather than aiming?

Vanquish is often mentioned as a spiritual successor and Vanquish is great, but it's a very different game.

I had too much to choose from at the time. That one just slipped under the net. Was going to buy all of the (initially) exclusive GC Capcom titles in one go. Lot of hype surrounding them back then. Did get the other two, but opted to buy Silpheed on the PS2 instead of P.N.03. I think I made the right choice.

There's a big discrepancy between what critics thought and what players thought, probably because games like this, like with SHMUPs, require practice and getting good at the game and not everyone enjoy that. Also, critics seldom have time to really play the game they're supposed to review, resulting in very shallow reviews. Gunvalkyrie and God Hand also got mixed reviews by critics.

Not really like Bayonetta at all, besides the inherent fanservice. Core mechanics, playstyle and player goals are vastly different.
