is there anything you autists find wrong with these collections or are they a good way to experience megaman? i've been on a huge megaman kick recently and want to play them all on my crt for cheap.

They should be fine OP. However, you’re probably best experiencing them on the original hardware using a flash cart or hell, even NES emulators at this point are fine. My worry would be the controls.

It's a mainline game. Mega Man 9 ending calls back to previous 9 Wily fights. But it doesn't matter if it's canon or not because it's a great game, they should've included it in the Legacy Collection 2

>> No.7975506

not sure about the classic collection, but the X collection is great in regards to input delay, or lack thereof.

>> No.7975519

I remember being disappointed with the X Collection. In the hype up to it, inclearly recall there being talk that they'd touch things up, maybe add new music, etc, but in the end it only amounted to some dialogue tweaks in X1 or something. Supposedly they axed this since they'd planned to continue the Maverick Hunter X series, but of course that didn't happen.

At least they threw in the Euro CD version of X3, since that was new content for US audiences (though I prefer the SNES game; too bad there wasn't an option to switch versions/soundtrack)

>> No.7975524

>>7975424
I had the classic collection on GameCube when I was younger and I hunted so hard to get the X collection on PS2 later on. They're both great.

The classic collection has 1-8 and two arcade games. 1-6 are the PSX versions, 7 is, well it's the only version of 7, and 8 is the PSX version as well. There's nothing wrong with the PSX versions, but if you suck you might enjoy the added hints feature. The only possible gripe you could possibly have is that the Saturn version of 8 has some hidden boss fights with characters from earlier games and that's not present here (but it's not present in any other collection either).

It doesn't have Rockman and Forte and that's a shame.

The X collection is fine but X6 is a shitty game.

At the end of the day you could just emulate everything in those collections. So long as you have a good controller it's fine.

GC Anniversay Collection has B/A buttons reversed, with zero options to change it in-game, unless you use a hack. I think that the PS2 version only runs at 480i which looks pretty bad, even on a CRT. This only happens with the Anniversary Collection tho, X collection runs at native 240p. There's a fair amount of small problems with those collections, but I'll keep it like this:
AC: looks blurry, there are rumours of small input lag in every game and some might say that there's big input lag on MM8. MM7 lacks the ending sequence and in MM8 some bosses have high pitched voices (among some other small bugs that don't make the games unplayable.) . On the good side, when playing the NES titles, AC adds the option to change your weapon with the triggers, a save system is there so you don't have to beat MM1 in one sitting and PS2 and Xbox have an option that uses arranged soundtracks.
>XC: X3 is the PS1 version, in X1 and X2 sometimes the music doesn't loop right. There might be small bugs on the PS1 titles but it's almost unnoticeable. X6 doesn't have voice acting (which might be a plus actually) I've heard that some games even run better than the originals. Battle & Chase is a nice plus.

i mean, the ps2 controller is practically a snes controller with analog sticks attached, so i'm not too worried
>>7975545
thank you my man, this is exactly the kind of in-depth response i was looking for. a shame about the anniversary collection being 480i and little niggles like that, but the bonuses sound like they'd still make the package worth it for me
i have one question to ask though, does x6 still have the original intro and outro songs? i heard legacy collection took them out due to licensing issues or something to that effect, but i love them too much to play without them

I didn't buy them because I already own 1-7 and Forte. I'm debating buying the collection for 8-10 but since it's digital only I don't see the point.

All the collections have input lag. It's actually impossible for them not to because of how modern consoles work. You're dealing with APIs and shit these days, not the bare metal like on the NES and SNES. Modern games are designed with this in mind but retro ports suffer some lag.

After playing them side by side to the games on an NES/SNES, the anniversary collection (I can't speak for the X Collection) has really, REALLY fucking bad input delay. Which is wierd because it wasn't outsourced, Capcom made the classic collection internally and Capcom at least mechanically tends to make good games when they're internally working on them.

>>7976495
While true, the steam versions of these games have significantly less input lag by comparison so if you have to get a port, get the modern pc ports.

Not even gonna bother reading this thread because people on 4chan are complete fucking retards and contrarian faggots when it comes to Mega Man. OP, take it from me, I've been playing Mega Man since I was a kid and I played both of these collections when I was a teen.
The Anniversary Collection is based off the Japan-only Rockman Complete Works releases for the Playstation, and it's only really worth playing if you want to experience the translated navigator lines and a few remixed songs. They botched the ending of Mega Man 7 because they couldn't properly emulate the Mode 7 effects. It also includes the two arcade games if that matters to you. Not worth playing unless, again, you want to try the navi mode in Mega Man 1-6.
The X Collection is decently emulated. Mega Man X3 is the Playstation version, and it also includes the only official American release of Battle & Chase as an unlockable bonus, so it is worth playing if only for those two things.
All in all, however, I'd recommend just emulating the games or buying the Legacy Collections. The Classic Legacy Collections are way more faithfully emulated and also include MM9 and 10, which are otherwise only available on Xbox 360 and PS3. The old X Collection isn't that bad so you can stick it with if you want, but the new Legacy Collections do have better emulation, and I'm pretty sure X7 and X8 are ported as opposed to emulated. Could be wrong, though.

Megaman X PS2 collection is the best way to play the games. It looks the same as the original PS1 games, and it removes the the slowdown from the SNES games. I hear the regular Mega Man Anni collection has worse image quality. The Gamecube ones have worse image quality than the PS2 versions.

I can only speak to Mega Man Anniversary collection, I never played the MMX one. The PS2 and Gamecube versions have different extra content, while the Xbox version has all the content from both versions. Stay far away from the Gamecube version, they reversed the jump and shoot buttons and they can't be remapped.

In short, Xbox > PS2 >>>>>>> Gamecube

The Legacy Collections split the games up to milk more money.

Unfortunately they fucked up MM9 and 10 in the Legacy Collection by using the wrong resolution. It's super easy to tell, too, because all you have to do is look at the lifebar. What makes it especially annoying is this is the only physical release those games ever had.
