What games should someone play on Saturn if they were gonna do a Saturn marathon and hadn't played the console much? Good games, funny bad games like Hydlide, weird games. Let me hear em. Also is Mednafen the emulator of choice?

If you want to litter your house with expensive plastic and discs that is ok with me fren, we all have our things we waste money on

I have 3 consoles. And i dont have a plastic problem either. If you want to enjoy your games i suggest original hardware & flashcarts. Been using emulators for 20 years also. They suck balls.

I had typed up a huge autistic list, but my tab refreshed for some reason and lost everything, so I'm just gonna put a handful of stuff:
Hansha de Spark (kinda looks like a Bomberman clone, but different)
Keriotosse (kinda looks like a prototype of Power Stone)
Shadows of the Tusk (kinda a SRPG/card game hybrid with a focus on versus multiplayer. It actually has peer-to-peer online that still works to this day, like how Saturn Bomberman is).
Guardian Heroes (beat-em-up with RPG elements)
Princess Crown (beat-em-up with RPG elements)
Dungeons & Dragons Collection (the Capcom D&D beat-em-ups with RPG elements)
Last Bronx (3D fighter)
Virtua Fighter 2 (3D fighter)
Fighting Vipers (3D fighter)
Fighters Megamix (3D fighter. Crossover of Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers)
Final Fight Revenge (3D fighter. Spinoff of the Final Fight series)
Groove on Fight (2D fighter. Part of Power Instinct series)
Advanced V.G. (2D fighter)
Rabbit (2D fighter)
Waku Waku 7 (2D fighter)
Golden Axe: The Duel (2D fighter)
Linkle Liver Story (top down action-adventure)
Legend of Oasis (top down action-adventure)
Magic Knight Rayearth (top down action-adventure)
Shining Wisdom (top down action-adventure)
Shining the Holy Ark (DRPG)
Shining Force 3 (SRPG)
Shining Force 3 scenario 2 (SRPG)
Shining Force 3 scenario 3 (SRPG)
Dragon Force (SRPG)
Dragon Force 2 (SRPG)
Sakura Wars (SRPG/visual novel)
Astal (platformer)
Keio Flying Squadron 2 (platformer)
Clockwork Knight (platformer)
Clockwork Knight 2 (platformer)
Albert Odyssey (JRPG)
Panzer Dragoon (rail shooter)
Panzer Dragoon 2 (rail shooter)
Panzer Dragoon Saga (JRPG)
Saturn Bomberman (bomberman)
Powerslave (FPS, but the Saturn version is completely different from the PC version. The PC version is just a typical Doom/Duke3D ripoff, but the Saturn version is a prototype Metroid Prime with a focus on exploration)
Bulk Slash (mech)
Virtual-On (mech)
D (Survival Horror)
Enemy Zero (Survival Horror)
Deep Fear (Survival Horror)

Not gatekeeping. In the end you can play how you fucking want to play. I am just opposing the self indulgent vr narrative that emulation is somehow magically superior to the real thing. Its not. Emulation will always be a photocopy.

Fantastic list anon, thanks a lot. Legend of Oasis, Clockwork Knight, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Fighters Megamix, Magic Knight Rayearth, Astal are some that I'm most excited to play

At the end of the day emulation is a common and useful alternative to getting expensive retro stuff, kinda weird to be against it. If I had more money I would love to have an actual Saturn for the fun of it

The Saturn is still relatively cheap compared to some other fringe /vr/ consoles. You're in the $50-100 ballpark, and it's a very easy console to soft mod, you don't need to buy $1,000 games, the cheapest mod to play burned disks is about $20. At the end of the day, Saturn is one of the consoles that you're just always better off playing on real hardware, and its very easy to just download an iso and get it running on there so emulation isn't as appealing as it used to be for Saturn.

Yeah, like I said, I had a longer list typed up at first, but my tab crashed. Had more shmups and racing games and stuff on it. I left off Japan exclusive JRPGs that don't have translation patches, since unless you know moon runes, you won't be able to play them. But, the Saturn had plenty of them, and hopefully we will see more of them get translations over time. The ones I want the most are Wachenroder, Black/Matrix, the Langrisser games, Magic School Lunar, Far East of Eden: The 4th Apocalypse, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, Solo Crisis, Arcana Strike, the Slayers Royal games, and Sakura Wars 2

House of the dead might be a good one, I actually think it has pretty detailed indoor graphics and the voice acting can be funny at times.

Yeah, House of the Dead and Virtua Cop. But only if you have a light gun or can otherwise replicate the experience (mouse point & shoot on an emulator or something).
