I want to start emulating some Saturn games but I don’t really know where to start. I’m not really into RPGs and fighting games, and unfortunately that’s basically the Saturn’s forte. Any recommendations on some good games? Already played Nights into Dreams and it’s the best thing ever.

I don't know where this myth comes from. You can count all the RPGs released in the west on one hand. There's like one more than the n64 but that's about it. There's not a large amount of Japanese ones either, and you're probably not gonna play those anyway because of the language barrier. Albert Odyssey is good though, get over your fear of RPGs, OP.

JRPGs are not the big thing for Saturn, that's PSX. Get Shining Force III, Saturn Bomberman, SotN, MMX4, Puyo Puyo Sun. For starters, didn't have that many other games that are good. You could get Dragon Force too.

The Saturn is known as THE shmup machine. Get some Radiant Silvergun, Dodonpachi, Batsugun, Battle Garegga, Rayforce, Sexy Parodius, Darius Gaiden, Thunder Force 5, Guardian Force, Strikers 1945, Twinkle Star Sprites, Cotton 2, Cotton Boomerang, and Gunbird

Even if that were true (it's not. The Saturn had way more RPGs than the N64, even in the west), you're not acknowledging the stuff that has gotten translation patches.

Definitive List right here

Xmen vs StreetFighter
Shining Force III (nearly impossible to find)
DragonForce
Dark Savior
Shining Wisdom (Action RPG)
Shining Holy Ark (Dungeon Crawler)
Burning Rangers
Virtual On
Panzer Dragoon Saga (impossible to find)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 or Zero 3
Pocket Fighter
Nights into Dreams
Grandia
Guardian Heroes (RPG Beatemup multiple paths and a roster of about 100 characters)
Radian Silvergun and other schmups.

That's about it for good Saturn games.

It is true, there's Alberty Oddysey, Shining Force 3, and that's about it, maybe Dragon Force if you count strategy tactics games. If you pad the list and include zelda clone shit like Magic Knight Rayearth like every other "top 10 rpg list" does then I guess you're right, but no, you're not right because Zelda clones are not and will never be RPGs in my eyes. Albert Odyssey is the only FF/DQ style turn based RPG.

Sega Rally Championship
Resident Evil
Fighters Megamix
Baroque (It's in Japanese but there's a website that has translations for it)
Virtua Fighter 2
Dead or Alive
Street fighter alpha 2 and alpha 3
Sonic 3D Blast
Tomb Raider
Dragon force
Grandia (It's been translated)
Dodonpachi
Magic knight rayearth
Vampire Savior
Sonic R (I like the music but the gameplay is kinda hard)
Sexy Parodies
Castlevania
Groove on fight
Burning rangers
D
Panzer dragoon Saga
Night's into dreams
Shining the holy ark
Panzer dragoon 2
Golden axe the duel
Astal
Chou Aniki
Mystaria
Radiant silver gun
Earthworm Jim 2
Powerslave

There's more but I'll leave that to you. Best place to get Saturn games is CD romance. I recommend getting an actual Saturn and burning the games. You should also use s-video on a crt.

The Gdapt shader blends dithering effects like fake transparencies. I recommend using CRT-Royale combined with Gdapt, so you get sharp pixels combined with properly blended dithering. If you hate that weird fake phosphor glow that CRT-Royale has by default, you can eliminate it by turning halation and diffusion all the way down to 0.

Honestly looks kinda neat as a novelty at least. Japanese version has the main character of a Decathlon, a manga that ran through the 90s. Not sure who the hell reads hundreds of chapters about a guy running, but neat.

I have returned.

Turns out, neither my rips nor my CD-R's were the problem.

A slight tweak of the potentiometer and it's reading backups like a champ, no more audio skips! I know it's something you have to be extra careful with but I figured if I fucked up and broke the laser I'd just say fuck it and order a Fenrir or another ODE, all lasers die eventually and that's my longterm plan regardless.

It would appear I spoke too soon. Some discs are still fucked and adjusting the potentiometer further didn't help.

Fuck this, time for my Saturn to say hello to Mr. Fenrir.

Track and field was a novelty. Honestly summer games has better game play than this. sad but true.

Policenauts (A Hideo Kojima VN)
Jung Rhythm (self explanatory)

Also, keep tabs on this site for their projects in progress, such as Cotton 2's fan translation here: https://segaxtreme.net/forums/saturn-dev.34/

A few years ago we all would have assumed that we would have Shining Force 3 translation never ever, Grandia translation never ever, or Vandal Hearts translation patch never

As long as there are based autists out there, you never know how many translations we'll get. I'm sure we'll see at least a few more games from that list translated within the next few years

I'd like to work on some fan translations for these, but I'd never know where to start in terms of getting a team together to tackle a whole video game.

You could always learn Japanese. It's hard, but rewarding, and then you have access to literally everything on Saturn without being beholden to fan translations. Also makes the time you spend with games educational. The only reason I even have a Saturn is because of the breadth of unique games only in Japanese on it. It really becomes a whole new world once you gain proficiency, at which point I think the Saturn becomes a real contender for greatest console ever.

Cringe. The wikia has been co-opted by reddit for at least a decade now.

Recommend some games with lewd/H content (that I can actually get to without being knowledgable in the forbidden art of moonrunes).

Please.

There were a couple of Playboy branded Karaoke games on the Saturn in Japan.

If you want to hear weird instrumental music playing over grainy softcore video it'll be right up your alley.

That sucks, but on the bright side ODE's have a ton of advantages over PseudoSaturn. Should be able to play games that normally wouldn't work like Croc for example.
